Can bike be started without gauges / headlight harness?

Looking at buying a bike that has been wrecked. Heavy front end damage broke the upper fairing and instrument cluster to peices. I'd like to hear the bike run before spending any money on it, but it won't crank over since the crash. It does prime the fuel pump and cycle the EXUP valve when the key is turned to ON. I did crank the bike over with a jumper on the starter relay - and the starter cranks fine.

Will it run with out gauges plugged in?

What else should I check?

Thanks in advance guys.

Yup, should run just fine minus gauges. I test rode my bike minus headlights and gauges before buying it.

I would start with verifying fuses are all good. Another thing to check would be the tip-over sensor. Not sure what the process is to reset it but that might need to be done to get the bike to fire. That sensor is located under the rider seat. Might be as simple as unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear. I did mess with the lean angle sensor, but couldn't find a good test procedure in the service manual. Ended up jumping the connection pins to bypass the sensor and still had no-start.

Next step will be to check the kill switch, neutral safety and sidestand switch.

BTW...your 'fighter project is going to be way cool!
