My yamaha R1 06 ECU have failed...the check engine light on and the engine running in 2 cylinder....not enough power.I dont know where else to check and rectify.Any idea??

So im curious whether i can change the ECU only or i have to replace the ECU complete with ignition?. Since im replacing with other bike ECU (same model) but not working....

Really need your help guys

Thank You in advance....

hmmm if you put another ECU in and it doesn't work, could it be something other than the ECU?

wiring have been rectified...and other sensor and relay are in good condition...but when i started the engine it runs only with 2cylider...not enough power....thats why i suspect the ECU.

The problem is..i only swap other R1 (same model)ECU without swapping the original ignition key. ie...i change the ECU and remain the ignition. It failed to read....

when i change back the old ECU then its okay with engine light failure "on"... it same when i put my ECU to other bike...it also cant read..

Thats why im asking whether the ECU can be swap without changing the ignition.

anyone have same experience?

Find out what two cylinders are dead....the header pipes won't get hot on dead cylinders
.....then its ignitiion, fuel or mechanical failure......if you don't have any test equipment ..it will be alot harder.....pull the plugs on dead cylinders.....inspect (or replace) check compression.....you will need some test equipment to properly check injectors
.... there is a way to put the bike in a "mode" that fires the injectors and you can hear if the injectors are "clicking".....I've never done this test but I read about in other posts...
do a search on this test....it may just be spark plugs....hope this helps...

Your are right BSR-1....I fully didn't understand his question other than two dead cylinders....thanks for input .....but in your opinion would an immbolizer key kill just two cylinders?? most time the system is designed to disable all cylinders ....no??

Thank you guys....sorry for late reply as im just back from business trip.

Ive check the proposed solution and it is in good condition.

Ok back to my question.

Ive been told that the ECU have to be change together with ignition key...and yes for your info , my bike have immobilizer key system.

For your info , i think its not the immobilizer key that effect the two cylinders. I mean that, with current situation, after replacing the burnt wire, ive replace the wire.....my bike can start with old ECU and Ignition....but with the check engine - yellow light "on" .

It shows that engine have problem and the bike runs in 2 cylinders, thats why i suspect ECU failure due to the wire problem.

I've swap only the ECU and its not working since it paired with existing ignition immobilizer key. And i've test my ECU to other bike and its still not working.

So my question is, do i have to change the ECU complete with ignition key or i can just change the ECU only?

Appreciate your help guys.

The above are the checking done.... the burnt wire is the one in connector from ECU to ignition and another electrical system. The bike can start but it runs with two cylinder only and the meter reading are abnormal with check engine light on. 2 of the plug are not function even have been replace with new one, not enough power. When i swap the ECU the ignition remain , the check engine light 'off' but can start the engine.

So thats why i think i have to change the ECU...but it is have to be complete with ignition or just the ECU? are there any setting need to be done if i just change the ECU and remain the ignition.

first , i dont think u got a problem with the ecu.
download the manual for your bike , u can enter diagnostics mode and it will show u all the errors on the dash . the manual have an explanation for each problem (error code) .
the ecu is really hard to destroy , even if u short all the wires together , so i think 90% u got some other problem.
anyway , if u have an immobilizer system , i think in most cases u need new ecu with compatible ignition key! most of the time this shit costs ore then 1k $$$!
if i were u , and the ecu is really damaged , i would buy us ecu + us ignition key.
that immobilizer crap wont help with theft anyway.

fault code #33:
open circuit is detected in the primary lead of the ignition coil (#1)

* open or short circuit in wiring harness
* malfunction in ignition coil
* malfunction in ECU
* malfunction in a component of ignition cut off circuit system

if you download a manual for this bike it will show you how to test this in the diag mode. it's too much info for me to type.
the manual is available (or a link to it) somewhere on this site but I don't have the time to search right now.

Guys,

Without all your comment, maybe I've already purchase the ECU complete with ignition without proper checking.

Ive done the diagnosis and following the statement given by BSR-1 and manage to clear the fault during first check.

* open or short circuit in wiring harness... there's a wire for one of cylinder are faulty...

Thank you guys...today im happily test my bike...and will ride again this weekend..as usual

THANK YOU GUYS

Phil, at first i replaced the burnt wire from ecu to ignition (at right fairing side, easy to see) and got the reading as i told you earlier. Once i've got the ERROR CODE 33, i seek my friends help to confirm the wire...

He said there's another set of wire lead to the cylinder failed ,under the fuel tank... i dont know how to inform you here. He just replace the wire and the failure fixed.

thank you all.
