Hello everyone. I have a 2016 R1 and for some reason the chain is eating away at the top of the swing arm. Is it because the chain is too loose? And how do I get it to the right tension?
Hello everyone. I have a 2016 R1 and for some reason the chain is eating away at the top of the swing arm. Is it because the chain is too loose? And how do I get it to the right tension?
Regarding how to set your chain tension... download the manual for your bike below. It's a very simple process. It appears that your chain is too loose and is damaging the chain guide. I recommend tightening the tension and buying a new chain guide.
After rotating the wheel on a stand I realized the chain had tight spots. I had to go get a new one and just got it changed. Thx for the advice on the chain guide, gonna order that rn
Your chain guide looks damaged. Buy a new one, install it, and adjust your chain slack to plus/minus 20.0mm when tugging on it vertically. And, make sure the adjusters are equally aligned from left to right.
Chain slack spec is 25mm-35mm for this bike. Measure it in tightest spot. I put a piece of stiff cardboard behind the chain at the measuring spot. Long enough to rest a long edge on the ground. Pull the chain up, mark a line on the cardboard. Push the chain down, mark a line. Measure distance between lines.
This will also change wither you're sitting on the bike or not. Don't get it too tight.
