Clutching question

I know that when braking you're only supposed to use two fingers but I saw a video of a guy the other day that did the same thing on his clutch. I tired using this technique and it doesn't work for me. The clutch wont engage all the way with my other two fingers there. Is this the "proper" way to clutch or should I continue using all my fingers?

I always use four fingers when breaking. Why are you suppose to only use two?

I figure that using two fingers would be a bad habbit. What happens if you need to come to a quick stop.....your going to use two fingers and be screwed.

In my opion a motorcycle is much different than a dirt bike. If your riding a dirt bike two fingers is cool.

 Why? It doesn't really matter how many fingers you are using as long as enough pressure is applied. I use four fingers to clutch and two fingers to brake (even for stoppies), but not for any particular reason other than habit. Do whatever makes YOU feel comfortable.

You might benefit from adjusting the clutch to your needs. I always use 2 fingers for clutching and braking myself, but find my last two fingers get in the way if the clutch lever is not adjusted properly. I usually find myself moving the clutch out a little, so it doesn't take much more than a half pull of the lever for the clutch to be fully dis-engauged. Then I'll adjust the brake lever to match the clutch lever, so they feel like they are at an equal distance from the clip-ons.

I don't know if that makes sense to you, but it made sense rattling around in my brain anyway.

Yeah, I use two on the clutch and two on the brake...always have....just feels most natural for me. But do it however YOU feel comfortable, that's all that matters.

I like two fingers on the brake cuz it's easier to blip the throttle in between downshifts that way.

For the clutch, I also do what Earl does - adjust it so it won't squeeze my fingers when I pull it in.

Ok, really...I think it's about what's comfortable for you. Obviously more fingers means more strength and more control.
Normally I use all four fingers but find myself on occasion using two.

If you used 4 fingers on the brake how would you blip the throttle during downshifts?
i use 4 on the clutch, 2 on the brake.

I prefer the two finger on the brake method because I can constantly cover the brake. You never know when you will need them fast!! That little bit of time it takes to grab it could be the difference between a close call and a trip to the hospital.

I also use the two finger clutch... seems to work better for me and I get smoother shifts (helps a lot from 1st to 2nd)
