Did you buy the ONE for its good looks or for its performance?

My previous bike was Suzuki SV650 standard. For the buck, nothing can match its handling and power. As far as looks went, it left a lot to be desired. I bought the bike because of the performance. Although, I thought I looked like a little bitch riding it around town. I would get nothing more than a sneer from fellow riders. Something had to be done.
I always thought the ONE was the best looking bike available, but was intimidated by the power. Now I have a thousand miles on my ’03 and have built up enough confidence to feel comfortable. Now when I pull up to the pump, I get stares and stories from people who intend to get one…yeah right. Bottom line, vanity and respect drove me buy the ONE. :rock

It was a combination of both. I had always admired the R1's power and balls out performance since it inception in 98, but I had already put $$ down on my ZX9-R. But in 2002 when the new style and the Sliver color came out I was hooked. I said Adios to my Kawa and became "one with the one". I know it's performance is second only to the Gixxer 1, but that bike is and ugly pig, anyway, I like watching people break they neck checkin out my bike.

I will admit mostly for looks (although it needed to also meet certain performance criteria for consideration). If I only wanted pure performance, then I would have gone with the gixxer 1k. I figure the r-1, cbr954rr, gsxr1k, and even zx9 all over more performance then I will ever need. I figured why not go with the best looking one.

Ouch KB97!!!

My best friend is a die hard Gixxer guy, and he recently purchased a 2003 GIxxer1. I will say that there is a difference between my 02 R1 and his bike. The gixxer seemes to rev easier than my bike, which as we all know the faster you get your revs up the faster your cash HP kicks in. Yes it is a small difference, but it apparent when you ride that Gixxer..

Straight line it's not that apparent, but after breaking or exiting a switch back the gixxers power comes back in a little faster, however you do feel that the tire is about to break loose so I don't know if all that power is useable. The R1 feels a little smoother, but that might just be because I'm so used to it.

Also, the gixxer it a bit easier to turn, but I lowered my front end 4mm and now the R1 turns on a dime.

Both...Who is going to use ALL the power a sportbike produces? I think most of the litre bikes out there today are so close to eachother in the power dept. Yea suzuki may have "some bragging rights for top Hp. Just imagine if yamaha was to spend some $$ on ram air for the "ONE"...Watch out that's all I have to say...

Well,

Im not a professional racer so honestly, ANY bike can make me smile?

But the R1 was for sexy looks to compensate for small penis? Chicks dig the Blue R1 and are immediately attracted to it!

I bought mine new in 2001 and love it more then my girlfriend. It was the look but I knew it had a sh*t load of power too. More power then I could ever push or take to the end of. Now I want something new again, I was thinking about a Gixxer but there just to fu*king hideous now. I hope Yamaha revamps there R1 for 2004, I just want it to be king of the power department again.

I'm with you Martin. To all those who say "looks, coz if you want performance buy an 03 Gix bla-bla-bla.........." Sorry boys, it wasn't available in 2000.

I bought mine for its unrivalled (at the time) performance.
