Sweet Ride ... those were beasts.

Back to your question, it is not what you ride, it's how you ride it that make you worthy.

We all have / and had different bikes before we could afford an R1 ... bu that is something to work towards.

Your bike has enough speed for a start, what is your age and your expierience. I think the CBR is a damn good stepping stone towards the R1 later.

Ride Safe and good luck :fork

dieyoung69 I'm 35 and have been riding for a couple years

Owned these bikes:

- EX500
- 600f2
- VFR 750

This bike is fast but needs a new rear sprocket. It's down 3 in the rear and has full Erion exhaust and jetted carbs

to look down on anyone else's bike is childish, I ride with all types of bikes from early 80's FZR's & GSXR's to new bikes as well as metric cruisers & Harleys, its not about the bike its about the love of riding :fact

Until 3 weeks ago, I was riding a 1987 Yamaha FZR 1000. I got this bike from my dad as a Christmas gift (yeah so what..I am daddy's little girl) and summer of 1997 I quit smoking overnight. The money that I saved over the years, I got myself my own Christmas gift this year, the R1. I still love riding my FZR so don't worry about what bike you ride, ride it well and have fun. Good looking bike I might say :)

Hey bud, the steps your taking, I have taken the exact same ones. I had a cbr 600 and a 900rr before I got my R1. I've now had 2 R1's. I'm at the point now where I am sick of having to buy a new bike every 2 years just so I can "keep with the Jones". Its all about how YOU value your bike, and how YOU ride it. Its not the bike that does it, its the rider. I've got an R1 now that in the straight away will KILL any other 1000cc bike, but when it comes to corners, its the RIDER that shines, not the bike. Just be proud of what you have. There will always be a "better" bike out there somewhere. Just treat yours like a baby and be proud you have such a nice clean looking bike.

Shit...look down? Are you kidding? That bike is one that many argue as the first true well handling sportbike of the road. That and damn if it isn't clean! Enjoy the ride that you have. There are plenty of people on here with some really trippy old school bikes, off brand (non yama) and anything else type of bike. hell, some don't even have bikes, they just love the sport and choose to share their love with others.

Enjoy it man for what it is.

Stay safe!

What you must remember that we all have one thing in common,Bikes!!, we are ALL BIKERS and a real BIKER will not put another BIKER down, no matter what he rides, but will instead, help where they can........ i started off on a Yamaha RZ50 in 1994......

As long as you riding you'll never be looked down upon..... Sweet ride by the way...........

Stay on 2 wheels!!

Thats a really nice cbr, if anyone looks down on you for that they must be crazy.

All it takes to see how great the cbr is rated is to look at how many people still desperately want them for track days.

I think it would also be safe to say if it wasn't for the revelution from the cbr there wouldn't be an r1 to ride today.

I don't look down on other bikes, just other riders when there attitudes justify it.
If you're happy with it then that is what is truly important.

Thanks for the replies everyone! :epimp I'm happy to see riders are sticking together! It's not the bike it's the person strapped to it

I really appreciate it and will take care of this bike. I'm even thinking of restoring it to showroom condition if possible.

Right now I just want a new rear sprocket. Some of the wiring is messed up too, so the sidestand/neutral lights don't work.

But the sidestand kill switch still works and all. Mechanically it feels rock solid. :flex:

Ride safe everyone!

hey..... you have something, and thats always better than nothing. so in my opinion, there's nothing to look down on. The people i get pissed at are the ones that keep bitching about wanting to ride, then go out and buy brand new cars and then claim that they can't throw together a couple thousands bucks on an old 600 or something.

if you are thinking about restoring it go ahead and do it; i guarantee you will enjoy the hell out of watching the bike become truly yours after you personalize it a little. you may not even care about having an R1 after you are done.

there are even some days when I wish I had my first bike back for sentimental reasons if nothing else. i put a lot of work in it just to trade it in after a year. one thing is for sure though; if its meant to be, you will eventually find a way to get a R1. no matter how long it takes or how much you have to sell your soul for! :sneaky

very sought after bike, huge benchmark in our sport as far as power to weight ratio. something i would keep even after you get a newer bike, congrats on the ride and don't worry about the haters they are not happy with them selfs and just want people to be as miserable as them.

I think this bike and I were meant to be together. I've wanted this exact model, year and color scheme since 1993 when I saw my very first 900rr.

And guess what, it was the red/white/blue 1993 model.

I had a chance to buy this bike last year but passed because it was really beat up, so it was sold to another guy who turned out to be my friend. He went and cleaned it up for me and sold it to me!
