My guess it that they are a little paranoid about giving someone access to there personal information. If someone really likes that new slip-on that you put on, you wouldn't want to give them an adress to come steal it!!

Your Soc# also isnt plastered on your vehicle, like your plates. But it is still a good idea I guess, better safe than sorry.

I think everyone is just paranoid... its not like somone can take your identity by knowing your lic plates.... or else people would have to cover them up while driving around.

If you have pics of wheelies or speeding etc, then a picture of your plate. Whats to stop an officer from issuing a ticket base on photo proof of a crime? I don't if its possible but :iamwithst better safe than sorry.

 

Your license plate number can be EASILY traced to the name and address of the owner of the vehicle/bike. It's not a major concern while driving, because of the (maybe) few thousand people you might pass on the street in a day, very few will have any interest in your plates and identity. The internet is a whole 'nother animal. Putting your plates, serial numbers, etc. out on the web allows hundreds of millions of people (many of whom have very ill intentions) very easy access to information they don't need, and probably shouldn't have. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Just my $.02.

Your physical address is plastered all over your residence. Anyone can see it. So why not post your residential address here? Looking at the obvious reason one would not do that, it becomes apparent why attaching your licence plate number to one's forum identity is an inherently very bad idea.

I'm only responding to this one because of the bitch slap, but c'mon man when ur on the road you don't think thousands of people don't see your plate? When your bike is parked you don't think hundreds of people see your plate? So the referance to the S.S. # is :bs . If that was the case we would ride around with our plates in the glove box like our registrations. But I would agree to some extent w/ some of the forum better safe than sorry but at the same time we expose or plates everyday to thousands. What do ya'll think someone could do with your license plate #? I'm thinking about it but can't really come up with anything significant.

:iamwithst They cant do ANYTHING with your plate!!! other than get your address from DMV (which takes for ever, because you have to request it at the DMV and state the reason why you need the info) and try to steal the bike from your home (which is highly unlikely because DMV wont give out the information unless you submit GOOD ID, which the DMV documents, and can be traced by Detectives handling the stolen veh case).

Who said I wanted to see peoples plates so bad? What I said was I wanted to know why because it seems like common practice on the forum and I could'nt think of a reason why everyone did it, so I asked a dumb ques. that I did'nt know the answer to.:finger :finger
