Got my chops busted on the dyno!

So get this. I'm at sportsbike west rally up in BC canada, and they are doing dyno wars. The top dog was a stock 04 r1 doing 155hp or something. So I wasn't really going to dyno my bike, but got talked into it because I should be able to beat it.

I'm running a 04 r1 with Hindle Full Race Ti System, BMC Race air filter and a PC3 usb with the grave full ti map on it.

We've been guessing it had around 170hp from how damn hard the bike pulls. I had been doing 3rd and 4th gear wheelies under power no clutching all weekend. I also have a tooth dropped in the front. Basically it's madness on wheels.

So I get on the dyno. 143hp!!

ANyone have any idea where they messed up? I mean all I hear about is guys pulling 165hp no problem and 154 stock no problem. I know I have more than 143, as I can pull on a stock 04 like there is no tomorrow, so what's up?

Well, I was told that hindle used to make graves exhaust and that alot of the racers up here in canada were using that map, so I dunno.

I'm going to get my head polished, cams and gears, smog block off, vel stacks, head gasket and throw in iridium plugs, so when that is all done I'm going to invest in a custom map, because that dyno was absolutly garbage that's for sure

could the problem be coming from the fact that you are using a Graves full Ti map in your PC3 for a Hindle full system??

this may be a stupid reply but..

Have you tried (if available) a Hindle map? If not, you may want to use that or get a custom map made.

I really dont think thats going to make a 20+ (claimed) horsepower difference.

Fair enough, but I don't see how I can loose 10hp from stock when I should be gaining atleast 10.

Custom map would eliminate a few variables. Ti Force used to make Graves pipes. Maybe Hindle before them...? I'm not sure. Regardless - the Graves pipes for an 04 aren't Hindles so the map os probably flawed from the get-go.

The wheelies & pulling have more to do with the gearing imo.

If you get a custom map post up the results. I'd be curious to see how it pays off. :thumbup

real life riding also incorporates the ram air from the front vents!!! consider that too!

Do some people even read? Dude had his modified '04 R1 on a dyno the same day and approximate time that another guy has his completely stock '04 R1 on the dyno. Yes there can be a lot of variation in dyno's but on the same day, and on the same dyno, he should be upset that he is giving up 12hp to a stock bike. Did you ever have your bike baselined before making the upgrades? Shops around here charge around $30 for several runs. I would never spend thousands of dollars in modifications without getting a baseline for before and after comparison. Go get the bike a custom map. Good luck.

yeah I know. I dunno, I still think they dynoed my bike in 6th instead of 5th. He had some trouble with shifting gears. So I dunno

Did you see the smoke show? lol... "Crazy Martin and his burnt up Bike?"

I saw that raced up ZX 6.. put up 110 HP.. not bad!

I'll attach a couple pics of the meet shortly when I gettim resized.:bandit

Well, you'll probably know who I am. I had the Red R1 with hindle cans on it. We also had the Dodge truck with the three crashed bikes piled up. I missed seeing him burn his bike as I was out on patrol picking up the crashed bikes lol
