Yes the throttle grip is larger than the left side. The left should fit real snug too, you may have crossed them over. If it's way big, run a layer of masking tape over the left bar and trial fit. If it's tight then use the hairspray and fix it on.
Otherwise take the throttle grip off and check the sizes.

 

what kind of grip did you get?

 

I got Renthal street grips... I could have swore they were the same inner diameter but maybe one was just a hair wider.... I've already got one side on now so I'm pretty hosed... I might have to order another pair to see if one grip is a little larger or not....

 

There should be two different sizes for a motorcycle. One has to be bigger for the throttle side so it will fit over the throttle tube. You may have purchased grips for a 4 wheeler which has the same I.D. because they use a thumb throttle.

 

Safety wire the grips, problem solved.

 

If i saftey wire them they will feel terrible.... I had to have screwed up on this one ... there must be one larger than the other

 

Why don't you wrap the bar in a layer of tape? Works for most, we do it on our race bikes as well.

Just buy new ones. Throttle tube fits over the clip-on - stands to reason that the throttle side will have a larger diameter grip. No big deal, if that's the dumbest thing you do while working on your bike, you are ahead of a lot of people.
