Handlebar vibrations ? R1 07

Hi guys,

Yesterday I was riding with friends and got chance to try out Triumph 675 Daytona.

It felt like children tricycle compared to R1 :D , but I noticed that handlebars are absolutely calm on this bike, no vibrations whatsoever. When I got back on my R1 I started noticing vibrations much more and now it's hauting me. Also friend who was riding my bike pointed out that it's vibrating quite a lot.

Is this slight vibration thing normal with R1's ?

Thanks ;)

Haha no dude. Your handlebars. There called clip ons. There clipped to your forks. Usually the aftermarket ones are alot lighter therefore causing more vibrations them the heavier stock ones.

But If its a huge deal to you. Get weighted bar ends. And it should help.

Also check the condition of your front tyre. As the tyre wears it usually creates small undulations on the surface that will cause vibration. The tread depth is not always an accurate indicator of the tyres true condition. Run your hand over the tread face of the tyre to feel how it's wearing.

Another common cause is steering head bearings out of adjustment or in need of replacement. To check raise the front wheel off the ground so there is no weight on the forks or the tripple tree at all. (that means you can't use a front lift or steering head lift for this. Either carefully jack it up under the headers or lift the front up by the frame so the weights on the rear wheel and side stand.)Turn the steering slowly lock to lock. If you can feel any notches you probably need new bearings. Also gently push and pull on the forks at the axle from the front of the bike. if you feel it clicking at all back and forth it could be bearings of fork bushes.

I really doubt it would be suspension settings. My money is on the tyre or the steering head bearings out of adjustment. Stock bearings can easily go out of adjustment in 8000km, in fact they usually need adjustment shortly after fitting or when bike is new.

Bad suspension settings can accelerate eneven tyre wear but I wouldn't think directly cause the problem.

How much vibration are we talking about anyway? A little is normal, especially as pointed out if you have aftermarket clip ons and/or light bar ends.

So that bearing can be adjusted ? Sorry I feel like complete newb asking like this :D

How much vibration ? Well it's hard to say... actually I did 2000km on this bike in last month and didn't whine about it at all, but since I got in my hands that Triumph yesterday + friend was complaining about it ... it feel like a lot vibrations is there, because there was literaly no vibarations at all on the other bike.

I'am pretty light on handlebars so ... it's not like hand goes numb or anything just that when I get on the bike now I'am thinking about how great calm feeling it was holding that Trimph bars and this is like holding two vibrators or something :D when I twist the throttle. I'ts mainly engine vibrations imo, because I can feel how it's changing while revs go up and down.

So I had short "fast" ride today +-50km with higher tyre pressue and I don't feel like it's a big deal ... but my head might be messing with me. I mean I don't have the other bike here to compare it again :D

Vibrations are still there, but guess it got better with tyre pressure a little (if it's even possible)

Tyres looks and feel fine to me, but I'am no expert :(

Front - Pirelli SuperCorsa SC2 had 2.3bar switched to 2.5bar

Rear - Pirelli SuperCorsa SP had 2.4bar switched to 2.55bar

couldn't check the bearing yet because I got late from work and there was no1 who could help me.

Is it a slow left right left right vibration or very high frequency? Is your suspension set correctly? have you check the tire pressure? Have you checked your hardware for any type of damage to the rims or rotors?

As far as I can tell now without sitting on bike it's high frequency vibrations in both bars.

Suspension ... oh ... actually never did any changes on any bike, I can feel every bump on this bike so I guess it's got some race suspension setup.

Tire pressure ... well it should be around 2.1 I think, but with that kind of pressure bikes feel pretty hard to steer in higher speeds. So I switched to 2.5 front and rear and it feels good ... but after doing some research it's probably too much and I don't wanna lay this bike down so I guess I'll go back to something like 2.4 at least.

Damage on rim ... I will check it out once more, but bike looks in great shape as far as my eyes can tell. Could you tell me any specific places I should check ?

read the how to suspension thread. Set up the rear shock preload, compression and rebound then the front. As the front gets light on acceleration, your compression and rebound setting might be too hard and stiff so instead of absorbing the bumps, it is just taking it straight into your arms.

Check r&g racing they some weighted bar ends that helped a lot. I have an 02 and they work good. I bought them from motomummy.

Are you sure it's not the motor that is vibrating the bars upon acceleration? My motors seems to vibrate a lot between 1k-5k rpm. Is this normal or should I get it checked. I have a 07 r1. I remember my 600s were really smooth an not much vibration at all.

I have 10k miles on her. 2nd owner. I never ride an other r1 so I can't compare.
