Hi, I have just purchased some "Race Products" frame sliders for my 01 R1.
Problems when I came to fit them:

Left side:- replacement bolt seems to be too long. After I have tightened it the slider bit still moves 1/2" in and out. From what I've found having done a search, the slider should spin - is this correct? - but not move in and out surely?

Right side:- read about the Play Doh method for locating where to drill the hole but Eyespy has an easier way (and I don't have any Play Doh!).
Does anyone have that link?
Having searched and then read all 526 threads Eyespy has posted on and still not found his "How To" I gave up!

Sorry, didn't mean to bogart your thread, but it seems like we are working on the same thing.

Also jstbecauz, thanx for the tip on the masking tape. I didn't know about that.
It's OK mate! and yes, we are about to do the same mod.
Let's hope we don't f*ck it up!
Guess I'll have to take a trip to the toy shop for the old play dough. It would be nice to find the other way of doing it though.

I tell you what, when I took the fairing off at the weekend and saw where the hole needed to be, i.e. where the fairing changes direction between the flat and the curved sections I thought F*CK THAT!
Now I realise it should be easy.

Just the other side to sort out now!
I can't believe they would send the sliders out with a bolt 1/2" too long with not enough thread on it.

Bro, I can't find anything from Eyespy's posts either. Sorry, I did mine and it wasn't that bad. I drilled my hole a bit bigger cause I wasn't sure if the body would flex at all and I didn't want it to be to tight to the slider.

Good luck
Thanks for your efforts!
Just one more question: Could you tell me, does your left side slider spin or is it tight in the frame?

Tight as a frogs ass. You may have been given the wrong bolt. Did you use all the washers that they provided?
Yep. Must be wrong bolt. The thread length is same as existing one, but the length of unthreaded section seems to be too long. Consequently I don't think I can cut it down cos there'll be even less thread.

Final question: do the intuitive race products sliders come with white stickers with red and black lettering on with a crown motif? I ask cos all the pics of them I've seen on here they have no stickers on them, but the Race Products sliders I got have stickers. They are black with aluminium inserts (big braket on right side slider with 2 holes in - 1 for bolt, one to go over frame lug for fairing screw) and black allen head bolts. Just wondered if they were made by intuitve or not.
I could take pics of them 2nite. Anyone have pics of them off the bike?

Thanks guys.

Good job there Eyespy! you're right, it looks as though the fairing came like that.

Now, onto my sliders. I've attached some pics of them but, assuming I have the correct ones for my bike, I can't understand why they have gone to all the trouble of making the offset bracket for the right side because it still doesn't clear the fairing.
Might as well have just had a straight engine mount one like the other side.

(EDIT - just had a thought, maybe they do it like this to move the slider hole away from the fairing securing hole/screw?)

Any ideas anyone?
The fact that the bolt on the other side is about 1/2" too long makes me suspect that they may be the wrong ones.
I'll phone the supplier tomorrow and check cos obviously I don't want to cut before I'm sure.

BTW - I think they are a steal at 35 GBP.

As you can see, the described method of using the new slider bolt in the engine mounting hole to mark some play dough won't work in my situation so IF they are the right ones I will either have to remove the slider part and put in a longer bolt where it goes or use Eyespy's method of lining it up in 2 axis.
