Who cares how tall we are? Go into your local Yami dealer and have a seat on the r1 and then you will know how it feels.

I'm 5'10" and can flat foot just fine.

 

Im 5'7. Right foot on the rear brake and left foot flat. Balls of my feet if both are down. bike is an 07 btw

 

Just lower the bike w/ an adjustable rear link and lower the front accordingly and you'll be fine. It's pretty simple and cheap. They have lowering link kits all over the web...especially ebay. Hope this helps.

if you are under 21 years of age, maybe look at less cc's!:fact

 

I'm 19 now and 6 feet tall, no problems with reaching the ground or keeping the tires on the road.

5'6 and I fit. just get used to tip toes!

 

you dont need to have both feet down at a stop....left foot down is all you need.. just takes practice ..also makes for smoother take offs---most people cant do it on a dirt bike so why do it on a street bike?

with a 30" inseam. I'm a tippy toes rider. Sucks to back up but it's fine at the stoplight.

You can drop an R1 an inch without too much issue with handling. Go sit on one before you buy. The gixxers have a more narrow seat, and from what you're saying, they may be the ride for you.

 

I'm 5'7" and I tippy toe. Your best bet would be to sit on it and see for yourself.

 

The R1 is a great bike but just make sure your mature enough for that type of power. I kind of jumped the gun too and got an R1 as my second bike but by no means do I think i can handle all of that power. I would think about getting a 600cc before jumping to 1000cc. Of course if you know your responsible enough than get a R1. And for the flat foot situation than all you need to know is what laubin's post said because all you need to have is your left foot down and right foot on the right peg.

 

5'11 but 30" inseam. I can almost flat on both sides perfectly, but I have to stretch my legs a little to do it. Not a big deal to me. I wouldn't go from a 250 to a 1000, though. If you've ridden the 250 a good bit look at 600s perhaps.

 

FZ6 or FZ8 would be a good fit, the seat is lower and the bike as a whole is more comfy. Riding position similar to the 2fiddy.

but yeah... i'm sorry to say, at 5'4", my buddy would not be able to ride my bike... he loves the R6 '07 though!!

also, for the love of God dont go up to an R1 from a 250 kawi... these monsters are not on four wheels, with double wishbone suspension, n' low profiles ..

by the same token... i can kick a 350z on an R6, had the 05.. believe me I kept up nicely with a 04 Z06 'VETTE on the open road, through some crazy arse
sweeps... 600s have WAYy MORE than enough power for the road!!

 

you can make some inexpensive shoe lifts with zip-ties & soup cans :secret:
