HJC Helmets?

I gotz me one of them CL-12 helmets. Bought it when I bought the One...no real reason why.

Here's my problem:
Whenever I'm riding fast and turn my head the damn visor pops up a little and I get blasted with air which is very distracting to begin with...then my eyes start to water a bit.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?
I would much rather fix it than buy a new helmet. Not sure I can afford a new helmet right now but I'm not sure I can afford not to get one.

This pisses me off.
And last weekend I went riding with some of the Colorado Springs brothers...on the way back to Denver it happened three damn times! Worse than it's ever happened before. I'm sick of this shit and will shelf this helmet (for emergencies) in favor of a better helmet if necessary. :fact

I also have that same problem.

Here is your problem:

HJC IS CHEAP CRAP

I have had two, and I will never buy another one. Mine used to do this too. The first one was a gift, the second one was a higher dollar HJC, but still crap.

I have an Arai Signet GT now. It has a special feature that "snaps" the shield colsed. If you have it snapped there is no way it will come open. Even if it's not snapped it won't come open. I had it slightly cracked one time, and when I got above about 125 and turned my head the shield flipped up, but that was my own fault. I think Arai calls it a shield locking system, but it works really good. Also, I don't mean to talk bad about you guys' helmets, but I've had two and know what your working with from experience. I noticed my HJC's also got a lot looser over time, something my Arai has NOT done, and I've had it about 16 months. That old phrase "You get what you pay for" suddenly comes to mind, and I've learned it's better to sacrifice a bike mod in order to pay for a good quality helmet. Good luck.

I agree they are not the best helmets....but it was what I could afford at the time. I thought riding with an HJC is better than riding with nothing.
I am looking to pick up a new lid in 3 weeks at the motorcycle show. I've heard there are really good deals on all types of stuff at the show, and figure I could get something better.

I tried on the Arai Astral last summer and loved it.
That was about the same time I dropped my helmet and wasn't sure if I should keep it. Obviously I kept the HJC but yeah...other than being a decent brain bucket overall it's shit. Doesn't fit as well as the Arai did and the Arai had that shield lock that damn near sold me on it (not to mention the fit was killer!).

Maybe buy a new visor for the helmet? How long have you had the helmet? Maybe the little notches are worn. I have had my helmet for almost 2 years and don't open the visor very often so when I do, it is VERY hard to open. I almost have to use both hands to pry it up! Other than that, I am out of ideas.

I've had it for just a year. This is the second visor on it since the first one got all scratched up. This second visor was much better than the first when exhibiting this problem until lately. Lately it's been a pain in the ass.

I totally agree with you, get the best you can for what you can afford. I wasn't trying to flame you or be an asshole. I don't like them from personal experience. Plus, I knew a guy whose friend got into a wreck one weekend and his HJC split down the middle and the guys skull went through into the side of a car. The guy died on scene. After he got killed I decided that I would buy a more expensive helmet. Of course, if it's DOT and Snell certified the protection level should be the same, regardless of price. Price is usually effected by comfort features. However, my HJC had gotten really loose on my head over time, so I decided I needed a new helmet that fit right, and decided that the extra money was worth it for the Arai if for nothing more than piece of mind.:thumbup

I have worked at 4 different bike shops and I now wear an Arai. The HJC customers had alot of trouble with the same thing. It seems like they buy and HJC for a short time(usually when they buy the bike), then end up buying an Arai or Shoei after they try one out. Ask your dealer to see the end of season discount catalog from Parts Unlimited and Tucker Rocky. If they do not or will not, just check ebay. Good luck and just shelf it. Someone will see it and buy it from you.

Hey guys, I have also owned this helmet and had some problems with it. I fixed this problem by adding a small weather stripping at the bottom of the opening, you can get this at any hardware store. Usually you would use this for windows, it's a little film, worked fine but I had to replace it every now and then. Overall I thought the HJC was an ok helmet, but decided to get a new one in the end. I have seen a few guys go down with them, they do the job well, don't don't listen to people saying they are crap.

;)

Are you speaking of the Chicago motorcycle show? If you are, I'll probably see you there :hellobye
*side note*- If you are planning on purchasing a new Arai RX7RR4 at the show, don't buy the Red Edwards Replica in a size Medium........I want it  :lol

I had the same problem with my HJC, as they don't have the shield-lock. It really sucked when my shield would pop up, but I kinda got used to it after a while :lol That was the only helmet I could afford at the time, but I have since purchased an Arai Quantum, and 2 Shoei ZII's. Both are EXCELLENT helmets, and you won't have the "pop-up" problem.
Another helmet vendor with awesome prices you may want to check out is www.motoxoutlet.com Shyong just purchased an Arai RX7RR4 Replica, and only paid $380 for it. If I can't find anything at the Chicago show, I'll probably end up purchasing from them!

Here's a solution; when riding fast just don't turn your head. You are going straight anyways, I don't see why you need to crank your head to the side. Sheesh. That was an easy one! Next? :p

paul, whats up man, how you been? The same thing used to happen to me when I had my cl12, I couldnt stand it, I got the pridmore replica (cl10, top of the line for HJC) and I have nothing but good things to say about this helmet. The cl12 is garbage!
Sup bro! :thumbup

I could live with it for a while but not anymore. This is dangerous business.

I have 2 HJC's

Both work fine. Have never had the visors pop up yet. At first mine was snug, but has fit really nice to my melon now. Of course, it is not top of the line, but will do in a pinch...;)

Oh yea, I try not to turn my head at higher speeds either. I had an AGV and KBC and both of those helmet visors flipped easily.

Have you ever owned an Arai or Shoei KD77? My HJC was my first helmet, so when I switched brands I didn't realize what I was missing. The weight difference, inner lining, and ventilations features of the Arai's and Shoei's are unparalleled. They are SOO comfortable! How are the KBC helmets? A guy at the dealership told me that the KBC helmets are gaining popularity, and are on par with Arai and Shoei. I've never tried one though.

Try this.

If there is nothing else wrong with your current helmet, maybe this will help you. I used to have the same problem. I think I made it worse because of the way I turned my head. I lifted it and turned it. The tab to lift the visor and the rush of air under my chin would catch and Poof, up goes my visor. Now I kind of look down and over my shoulder instead of up and over it. Try it, maybe it will help.
