I was just wondering how fast you guys have gone on your R1. My buddy was telling me that he's been 189 on his 03 stock! I've got a full Akra. sys. and I was in 6th at 10,000 rpms going 157. I thought, "there is now way this will do 189+." However I was wearing a backpack and had a tankbag. He tole me that's why I was going so "slow." Do you guys agree? :dunno

Word. I hear ya fellas. I just don't believe 189. It's not that 157 wasn't fast enough. It's just that I could hit 155 on my R6 and figured the R1 would do way more.
I hope I'm not encouraging anyone to go out and try to hit 190 tonight. I don't think you wanna hit the rev limiter in 6th. Scary! :scared :cryin :scared

Just some spontaneous info for ya.......

Sometimes vehicles will ONLY obtain top speed in 5th gear. The only way to push through the wind is with power and the high RPM of 5th will push the vehicle through the wind better than shifting into sixth. This is not all cases and have a ton of variables but is still a reality in some cases.

As it goes for an R1 with an exhaust doing 189 mph..... I say it is probably possible however with the gearing you would have to use, you would have to have your buddy push you and the bike up to about 26 miles before the bike took over and bogged it's way through the gears :)

A friend of mine held the fastest partial streamlined motorcycle record. He took his turbo busa (that he rode to work) up to 246 Mph at the salt flats.
He said that the issue with going any faster was the fact that his swing arm was bending at 230 and it was hard to control hahahahahaha!!!!

He said the bikes starts off with normal steering (steer left - go right, etc), then at about 210 the front wheel began to work like an airplane rudder and the bike would steer left go left. Then at about 230 it would go back to conventional steering because of the down force over taking the wind.

Makes ya kind of chuckle when we talk about going 155mph :) LOLOLO

clocked by chopper in pursuit and it claims they had me doing 287km/h which I don't think was very accurate but when I was running I really didn't have time to stare at the tack to long or else my ass would have been grass.

Heres a pic from highschool track meet:p

I think the unwritten rule though with the speedo is that you have to minus around 10-15km from what it says cause of your weight and wind resistence and stuff like that.

I think martinC explained it once but I can't remember.
I will search and see what I can find.

Anyone have faster track times in the hundred meter dash:sneaky

USDOT permits a 5 percent error of the speedometer (plus or minus either way), and most speedometers are optimistic (on the plus side). So consider, if your 2006 R1 speedometer reads 189 miles an hour, minus 5 percent would really be 179.55 mph. A 2002 R1 has about 136 rear wheel horsepower (and tops out at 169mph) and a 2006 R1 has about 160 rwh. The speedometer reading of 189 mph is about right for a 2006 R1 (with 160 rwh) with the amount of horsepower it has over a 2002 (136 rwh).

On the dyno my speedometer read 186 but the dyno registered the speed at 174.

On the street I've seen 173 on the speedometer.

Don't forget about altitude, at 1,100 ft I have seen 183 on the speedo, but the highest published 'true' speed for an 02 was 167. Just so you know the speedo can be off 2-3 mph for every 60 mph but most off the time the speedo reads high.

If you need a dampner for top speed runs you have chassis set problems(not enough rear preload, makes the front lite).
I haven't got my '02 over 140,on the street things have a habit of jumping in your way(happened to me a few times) and at that kind of speed there's a good chance of hitting it before you can react to it, plus I got an R1 for the twisties( that's where it rocks the best):rock :fork
