Installed a set of Lockhart Flush Mount IV mini's with the clear lens last night. It was the easiest install I have done. Removed the top fairing, popped the factory signals off, cut the quick connector off and butt spliced it to the LP's. The LP's have a 1" threaded shaft and locknut, they fit PERFECTLY in the recess of the fairing where the rubber boot of the factory signal sat. Plug em' in, and replace the fairing. They look the cleanest that I have seen. Only one drawback, they are small, only about the size of silver dollar, but oval. The bulbs are bright, but caution will have to be used in traffic. If someone is looking for an easy, staight forward installation that cleans up the front end, these are it

I ordered the same mini flushmount IV today from www.chaparral-racing.com. Once I get them in around the 28th of May I will put em on and take some pictures to post.

If you order from Chaparral the item number is L122-9752 (for clear lens with yellow bulb) and they are $13.99. Now you gotta watch the shipping price. $00.00 - $15.00 is $10.99 for shipping. $15.01 - $50.00 is 6.99 for shipping. So it's cheaper to spend over $15.00 bucks. (Guess who bought a extra replacement light bulb for my rear short stalks to push the price over $15.00?) I didn't look anywhere else for the Mini IV's because I knew Chaparral had them and they weren't super expensive. You might be able to find them somewhere else for cheaper if you put the man hours into looking. I think with shipping, extra bulb and flushmounts I was at about $23.00.

Got mine from Lockhart Phillips, cost around $18 from the local speed shop. They fit IN the recess of the fairing where the old signal bases sat, do not cover any decals. Very unoticable.

I just checked the online shipping status on the LP IV's I ordered. They left the local UPS building this morning and are scheduled to be delivered. I won't be home until late tonight but I will put em on as soon as I get home and take some pictures so everyone can FINALLY see what they look like!

Hey,
Also did some LP flushmount IVs irridium mediums. A little bit of dremmel work but all in all, only about an hour job. They are single fillament so they do not use a running light, only the turning signal. Dont know if they make dual or not in the IVs.

Only the LP IV "LARGE" come in dual filament. Although I haven't seen them I don't imagine the LARGE would fit on a 02 R1 because of the curve in the bodywork. Plus with the damn sticker so close to the blinker hole it's hard to get anything to big because they will cover the sticker.

1LTR1, did your Mediums cover the sticker at all? Do you have any pictures?

Yo,
No, they dont cover any decals. I really like the look of the irridium. Anyway, I will try and take some pictures tonight and put them on here for you guys. I have them angled up just slightly but I think it goes with the lines of the fenders

I don't have the mini's to take a pic for you but I can help you take off your stock blinkers.

Loosen all the 1/4 turns fasteners and screws that holds on the side panel (the black one if you have a liq silver). You'll have to remove 4 or 5 from inside the front of the bike were the front wheel is.

Hold the panel away from the bike a couple of inches to unplug the blinker light.

Look on the backside of the panel and there is a plastic retainer piece that holds the rubber mounting boot from pulling through the mounting hole in the fairing. After removing this retainer , the marker light ass'y can be pulled out of the side panel.

It's really easy and you shouldn't have any problems.

I'm not the best at writing procedures but I hope this helps.

You don't really need to remove the side panel to get to the blinkers. You can just remove the little panel that is right next to the gas tank (directly below the handlebars - you know, those small fairings.)

Then just follow sundowners directions for removing the signal itself. Anyway, learn from our experiences, don't remove the whole side fairing or even the front/top fairing.

Sweet, that makes it a lot easier than my way.:D

Thanks,

I did the same thing:lol After getting the side panel off and back on, I realized that there's a top panel for that shit! At least now I know the easy way to install the minis....if they would ever come:mad:

I have never been so disappointed in my LIFE !!!!

I only ordered the Lockhart Phillips IV mini's after Rkrafty1 wrote that they were the easiest install and how the really cleaned up the front end of the bike.

THEY LOOK LIKE SHIT ! !! !! ! I can't believe I wasted money on this junk. They don't fit in the recess of the old hole for the blinker. They stick out and are completely uneven. The only time I even got close to getting to somewhat fit in the faring I was tightening the back of it and the front lens popped off. I figured I would try and super glue the lens back on since I didn't think anything else would work. The super glue held but I just couldn't get them to sit correctly. I took a picture of the one I got to sit as closely as possible to somewhat presentable and it still looked like crap. HOLY JESUS I am pissed!!! No wonder he didn't want to post a picture he didn't want anyone to know how retarded they looked. Thank god I didn't start using the dremmel otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get the stupid OEM blinkers back in.

Rkrafty1 you must work for Lockhart Phillips or something because I don't know why anyone would ever recommend those Flushmounts!!! They simply look like TRASH.

I'm looking for something that will neatly cover the hole and mount flush to the faring... HENCE the name "FLUSHMOUNT!!"

If you purchased these LP IV's MINI's I'm sorry! I am sure you will be just as disappointed as I AM!!!

Thanks for recommending them Rkrafty1... I am so happy I wasted my money on them...... :finger :finger

And yes I am back to the Stock Blinkers !!!!

Uh oh... I just ripped my stockers off last night, and I kinda trashed one of 'em :bash

Yeah, those mini's fit like crap alright. I've heard some people say you just have to dremel the flushies a bit, but the only thing I can think of grinding is the threaded part of it, and that would mean no more threading! You would really have to grind the fairing to get the mini's to fit further back in the hole, and that's a pretty big step with $300+ of plastic on the line.

SH*T! :finger :cryin :machinegu :butt

I tried to dremmel the threaded part of the flushmount too. I figured the same thing when I was looking at it. It did slide back a little bit and gave it a fit that still looked like shit! See, when I tried to tighten it up to keep it back like that it always wanted to slide back forward. That's how the lens popped off. It's hard to explain but if you are getting the IV mini's you will have the same delight that I did. Nothing but frustration and anger!!!

And I'm still not every going to follow Rkrafty1's advice again.... Before I ever consider listening to him again I'll just start taking $20 dollar bills and burning them.... one by one....

I too ordered the flushmounts from Moto-Graphics but I got the LED version. I just told the wife about it she wasn't happy. I am hoping that they will work out and be what I have been looking for. One of these days I will actually have some flushmounts and I will also post some pictures. I'm still waiting on the rear stuff to come in from cyclemall.net. I'll post those pictures once that stuff comes in!

I concur, do NOT get the LP Flushmount IV minis. They are complete garbage on the front of the 2002 R1.

Within three minutes of determing that the "flushmounts" were useless for the purpose I purchased them for, I realized I could actually use them for another purpose.

I had rewired those little lights by the headlights to be blinkers. To do that I had just replaced the stock 5 watt white wedge bulbs with 5 watt amber wedge bulbs and wired them into the turn signal wires. Not very bright at all though. However, the bulbs that are in the LP IV minis are almost exactly the same size, but they're 23 watt bulbs instead of 5 watts. :rock

The bulbs are different however. The stock bulbs are wedge bulbs, and the LP IV mini bulbs are similiar to regular blinker bulbs, just way smaller. (They have the two little prongs that stick out on the sides, and you twist them to secure them in the holder) So I had to remove the wires from the stock rubber piece. They come out real easy by pushing them from the rear and out the top. I also had to remove the bulb holder from the LP IV mini rubber piece. Then I cut the inside of the stock rubber piece with an X-acto knife, so I could fit the LP IV mini bulb holder inside it. Then I just slide it in, put the wires through, and there ya go. It took all of 10 minutes to do. I've already tried it and it's a night and day difference. WAY more visible. At least I was able to do something with them.

Rkrafty1, man I don't know what the hell you were thinking, saying how "PERFECTLY" they fit, or how they "cleaned up the front end". They are complete trash. So everyone else, do not waste your money on the LP IV minis. If you did, I'd recommend doing what I just said.

I'd take pics for you guys to show you what I did, but my digital camera sucks monkey butt. I'll give it a shot tomorrow in the daylight though.
