keyless ignition

I have performed this modification with my CBR600rr with a little help from Tristan on 600rr.net. The power to the bike is turned on with run switch. However, I have been looking for similar post here, but to no avail, I have had no luck.

I realize this is a touchy subject since we don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry knowing how to "hot wire" a bike.

I have a 2004 R1 track bike and it will more than likely never see the street again. Therefore, I want to bypass the ignition and get ride of the need for a key.

Can anyone help with this?

There is not a thread like that as far as I know, I'm pretty stuck with my key having a chip in it to activate / de-activate the immobilser. (euro model)

No key makes sense if you do only track, there are a few members here with fully blown track bikes.

Don't quote me, but I believe you can purchase a "racing" harness which eliminates the need for a key (as well as lots of other things eg. indicators)

Hit google up, or maybe someone here will give you a lead.

Stick the key in, turn it to the on position and break it off!! Hide a switch tucked in on the bike somewhere in between the power source and ignition to flip on and off for power. Use the kill switch for stopping the engine. :thumbup :lol

I've been wanting to know how to do this for sometime. In theory all you have to do is cross the two contacts from the key lock, and install a switch in place of the lock. It's my understanding that there a resistor of sorts in the lock that prohibits hotwiring the bike, and that's something I've never confirmed or known what the resistance is.

If the imobilizer is like what they had in cars years back where there is a resistor in the key that has to complete a circuit when inserted all you have to do is figure out what wire to the ignition switch is for that, use a ohm meter on the key to find out what resistor you need and insert a resistor of that value into that wire then complete the circuit back out of the switch. GM cars had this and that is how you defeated their system. If it is a transponder chip just remove the chip from the key (carefully) or remove the antenna from the ihnition lock assy, tape the ket to it and hid it in the bike someplace.
Aside from all that all you need to do is remove the ignition switch use a wire diagram or multi meter to figure out what wires into and out of the switch make a connection when it is ON and hard wire it ON. Insert a relay in the circuit and wire it remotely some place hidden with a switch. I was thinking about installing a remote starter like for a car and removing the ignition switch. It can be wired so it remains ON instead of cutting off after 10-15 minutes and you will be able to start the bike with a remote and no key.

If you can read & comprehend the service manual available here with an electrical diagram its easily done!

You may choose to install a regular ignition switch, a remote keyless start like this or a hard wired momentary / toggle switch hidden somewhere on the bike.

I also like a few of the ideas already mentioned.

I've done this with some of my race bikes as well as a few friends bikes. Not hard to figure out with a wiring diagram, but probably not the kind of information you want posted on the internet.
Its already on the Internetz

if it's a strictly tack bike why not just leave the key in the ignition?

Thanks for all the replies. Couple of things this is a dedicated track bike. Additionally, I did this with my 600rr which had a resistor up underneath the ignition tumbler. I don't want the key, this is one less thing to loose. The breaking it off is out of the question.

I'll see if the guy on 600rr.net knows about the R1. You guys might know him, his name is Tripage and he installs LED's on passenger rearsets.

BUMP... Instead of starting a new thread, thought I'd start here.

My 06 is going to be strictly track, so I don't need the key/ignition. Instead I want a toggle switch to replace the key/ignition.

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer on the R-6 forum.
