shift forks are going bye, bye. been there done that.
at least that is my armchair diagnosis

 

easy fix?

 

Easy enough to drop engine out, split cases, pull trans out and replace shift forks, then reassemble in correct order. Done it quite a few time on other bikes, these are no different.

 

i feel like ive heard this in my 01, a quiet knocking noise i can only hear in lower RPMs because the exhaust is so loud.

i had the same problem, replaced shift forks, good bye noise!

 

oh and by the way... have fun splitting the cases... and make sure you get all the o-rings back in place before putting it all back together, i flooded my block with anti-freeze two minutes into riding around the block after getting it put back together. NO FUN

If it was your CCT it would do it in every gear, not just 1-3. Sorry man

 

should i change my CCT and my shift forks?

 

I can almost guarantee you its not the CCT. Like i said before, if that was the case, the gear you were in would not matter. But if you are stuck on the possiblity that it might be it, you can pick up a adjustable CCT for like $50.
