I recently put on a set of scorpion ss cans and gutted the cat on my 04 r1. It seems to me that I have lost power in my low and mid range. The only other mods done to it are the smog plates. I raced my gfs dad on his 03 before the mods and could beat him and now he beats me. I also rode his bike and his throttle response is so smooth its unbelievable. As soon as u hit the gas, his front wheel is up and smooth as can be. He doesnt have any mods other than a slipon and I feel my bike should feel like his and be even faster. Im pretty sure my bike is running lean/rich, but im not sure as to which. I have thought about putting it in adjustment mode to switch modes between low/mid/high by doing the thing where u hold down the 3 buttoms etc but I have no idea which way to go with it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You are going to loose low end with those mods. It has to do with back pressure and you just opened up the exhaust a lot. It probably is running really rich. I would suggest a pcIII and gears should fix your low end problems.

Sounds like he already has a power commander from the last line....

While you will lose low end you should at least have the bike dyno mapped to get things where they need to be. :thumbup

Did you have the bike tuned after you added the slip on and gutted the cat?

If not, then get that taken care of and if you still are lacking more low end power than what is normal, we'll go from there.

I don't touch the buttons on my PCIII. Take it to a shop and get a full tune or at the very least download the appropriate map from the PC website.

pcIII

I didnt have the bike dyno ran after the mods. My father in laws bike doesnt have a pc and other than the slip on its stock. His bike just seems so smooth from the time I hit the throttle to the time I let off. I guess I gotta save up or maybe I could trade some of my stock parts or aftermarket parts for a pcIII. Anyone interested? lol. I got pipes, mirrors, graves case covers(both sides), and stock tail light. Lmk if anyone has any good ideas.

every bike is different. A custom tune with a PCIII and you will see a big difference.

I think im gonna go ahead and do the -1 up front. Do you think I need to get the pcIII. I was told with the scorpion slip ons, it would help performance without a tune, but then I had to go and gut the cat and do a smog block off. Im guessing them two things meant all the difference.

I'm having some things added to my bike also, smog plates, velocity stacks, pcIII, baffled cans, and gutted cat. I guess my question is with all that most would still get a custom dyno tune and drop one tooth in the front? And if I drop 1 tooth can I still use my stock chain?

you can you use the stock chain as long it's still in good condition. you need 16tooth sprocket 530 pitch to be used. your speedo will be off though. so you might want to look into a speedo healer. while your add it go ahead and disconnect the exup valve and wire it open. now go get your custom tune and whatch your R1 rip.

ok. only other question I have is about the map ill need. Like I said before, I have the y pipe gutted, the scorpion slip ons and smog block off. Im gonna try n do some trading for a pc3 cuz of money issues right now, but id like to know exactly what map I need when I get the pc3 installed. Thanks for the help guys

ok so he said the r1 his dad has the 03 is stock with a exception of the slip on. what if you just go down 1 in front on the 03, do a full exhaust maybe lets say arata, or yoshi, and get a map. or even just keep the slip on with the exup removed, and get a nice map for it or even custom map it. I still say the 03 will smoke it. not on the top end probably being the 04 has 180 hp. but low end for sure. maybe even a quarter mile race as well. I'd be close possibly
