Manufacturer's Decisions Regarding Headers

Hey,

Me and a friend got into a lil debate about why our other friend's ZX6-R has 4-2-1's over 4-1's. Think the R1 is rocking double Y's too.

- One party says that 4-2-1-'s are used over 4-1's because they offer better drivability opposed to having all your power top-end
- Other party says that 4-2-1's are used over 4-1's because the manufacturing costs are lower and they don't give a **** about your daily drivability - it's a SS bike.

Doesn't matter who said which, I'm just curious, what to do others think? (Doubt there will be a hard set-in-stone answer out of this)

Cheers.

That's a good point.

I think we were both comparing them to car headers, where generally a 4-1 header is MUCH more expensive than a 4-2-1 setup. It is definitely expensive for a full setup, though.

On the flip-side, my Kat has a full V&H 4-2-1 and it picks up power in the upper end - (V&H exhaust + K&N box + jet kit) - it's actually a bit flat in the lower revs (forgot exactly where the flat spot is - only for like 500rpm mid-range or something).
