No problems yet with little over 2K on the clock. Checked oil regularly and never drops. I woulcn't be able to tell in this cold weather if it was blue or just steam anyways.
Most bikes spit white out when warming up. But blue smoke is definitely noticeable in appearance and smell nomatter what the temperature:scared

Sorry to hear that ... my bikes doing the same thing.
I have 2004 model CBR1000RR that has hardly done 8079 kms on it and it started doing it ... for the pst 4 months ive been waiting for Honda to get it fixed but so far without any luck.
deaing with warranty issues is a pain in the back mate, thats also the reason why my bike profile says "Yamaha Rocks - honda sucks" little did i know that some yamahss have experienced the same thing.

My bikes is bone stock ... all i have modiefied it with is a tinted screen, oggy knobs and a fender eliminator thats got nothign to do with performance ... seriously though Honda f***ing sucks NEVER buy a HONDA ... NEVER!!!!
:fork :rock
HONDA :boom :boom :boom

Alot of bikes will burn a little oil when first started (mine does). Does it continue to puff blue when its warm or just when it's cold? If it's only when cold don't worry about it.

yup it may be just a start up thing.. or you over filled the oil...either way prepare to wait while yamaha determines whats up. If you just must take it in. Demand a leak down test..even if you have to pay for it initialy...if the #s indicate a leak down in any cylinder that is out of limits...they'l fix i under warranty... but a lil puff on a engine that really is still new is a bit typical. eliminate your contributions to the problem( the you factor) compare to another r1 if you can...watch oil level...are you missing any? are you using any additives...

SPUN ROD BEARINGS OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET !!!!

Yeah maybe but only during a ful moon.:D

When you start your bike it hasnt reached operating tolerances yet and some oil can squeak past the rings until it warms up. This along with the cold start fuel enrichment breaking down some of this oil off of the walls will cause some smoking.

If it stops after it warms up I wouldnt worry.
If it always smokes I would chalk it up to taking it too easy during break in.

i think its just cold weather .
let the engine warm up couple minutes and see if it stays ...
also , dont rew up the engine when its still cold .
if not , then probably the rings ....:no
