I went to a local sporting goods store and saw a new silver R1 in the lot. I saw the owner coming out so I waited to talk to him. I was just going to compliment him on his bike.

Me- Nice carbon fiber Yosh. RS-3. Is it the race baffle or street baffle?

Him- What?

Me-Nice carbon fiber Yosh. RS-3. Is it the race baffle or street baffle? (I'm thinking WTF?)

Him-It's a YAM-A-HA Y-Z-F-R-1 (He said it enunciating every sylable like I was either deaf or a moron who had no idea what I was talking about)

Me-I know it's an R1, I own an '01. I was asking about your exhaust.

Him- Oh. I don't know much about it, it sounds good though. It's supposed to help out with some extra ponies!

Me-Oh.........

I went into the store and since they didn't have what I needed, I came right back out. He was still in the lot so I talked to him some more.

Me- Have you ever thought about getting a full system and ditching the EXUP?

Him-(witha glazed look on his face) What's that?

Me-The EXUP valve.

Him- I really don't know anything about it. What do racers do? I just got the bike a few months ago. I'm still up in the air as far as which stuff I need to modify first.

Me-Is this your first bike?

Him-Yeah, I mostly wanted a bike to run on the track and still be able to ride on the streets. I've got several track days under my belt and am going again on the 13th.

Me-Look at the time, I gotta run. See ya. Let's hear that Yosh pipe.

He proceded to attempt to start the bike, trying every possible combination of switch flipping and button pressing he could find until he figured that the key was in the seat release lock on the side of the bike, and not in the ignition . He then started it up, put on his beanie helmet and fingerless gloves, adjusted his shorts, tucked in his tank top and left. I listened and I never heard him shift as long as he was in ear shot. First gear all the way home I guess.

Oh well, I just wanted to share. Have a good week everyone.

OMG! That is the funniest thing I've heard this morning. Thanks for cheering up my Monday morning.

btw, guy must have mad skills if he's riding in 1st gear at the track. :D

S-e-v-e-r-a-l track days? um ... :bs . He didn't notice that the key was not in the ignition? did you happen to take a peek at hiw tires? That tends to be the first thing I do when I meet a new rider. I use it as a guage for how much of his :bs I should believe.

HAha, I always check the tires. Funny how a little glance will let you know so much about a person. I am not saying I judge a person by his tires, but if he has some big strips and he starts telling me how to ride, well then, yeah :butt . But, if he does have strips and let's me know he is inexperienced and just got the bike, still trying to learn how to ride it, well then good, I respect that a lot more than someone trying to blow smoke up my arse. :beer

I agree with r1gladiator02, the entire time I'm reading I'm thinking that's got to be stolen, and you know how i feel about stolen bikes...

Are you admitting that you were a squid? :D :p Admitting the problem is the first step. Let it out brother, let it out. :bash :crash

i have about 1000 miles and getting a little more comfortable all the time, but not TOO comfortable (if you know what i mean) :thumbup

Ditto on the tire check!!

I have a friend who rides a '97 GSXR 750. Every time he replaces a tire he buys race take offs from a shop locally. The rest of us have decided that he does this so he won't need to explain the 3" chicken strips on each side of his rear tire. You probably all know the type. Total squid all the way down to the basketball shorts & tank top. Full race tuck....even at 35 on surface streets. Always talking about the killer wheelie he did, but I've never seen his front leave the ground....it couldn't, he's always laying flat across the tank! Still, he is quality entertainment for the rest of us.

I'm in the same boat man. About 1200 miles on mine...purchased back in the end of July. I ride the bike to work almost everyday since I had it. Definately taking it slow and easy as well.

S2000 was a fun car while I had it. Of course, you can't compare the Vette and the S2000. Two totally different beasts. The S2000 had about enough power for me personally. Pretty nimble car and loads of fun to drive. Revving the motor up to 9000RPM puts a smile on your face everytime. Engine characteristics at the time closely resembled what I thought a motorcycle engine would feel like. I'm not that big into convertibles but loved the car for everything it was besides the vert top.

I've driven the Vette extensively as well. The lack of torque and high horsepower evident in the S2000 shows...big time. But again, comparing apples to oranges. I was pleasingly surprised by the agility of the Vette. Considering the weight an all. Very nice car to road race.

I was pretty big into cars up until last year. Got tired of spending money on 4 wheels. Figured I'd give motorcycling a try. So far so good...light years in fun compared to driving cars. :thumbup

I have driven numerous S2000's and never could get used to the power curve, there was no torque and when the power did arrive it was usually to revvy to do anything with, this must be why the S2000 placed so low in the Touring 2 class last year. The Vette is a decent car for the money but like all cars it has its problems, the LS1 motor is great for the money but is very expensive to make able to hold real HP. The Supra is a different story, for whatever your pleasure, roadrace or drag there is a turbo setup that will make you shit your pants.

it would be a challenge to drive an S2000 fast with the revvy engine - that is what would be fun - not the actual speed.

my Z06 makes just under 400 rwhp - that is plenty, i don't want to do stupid shit like race a supra with 800 hp on a public road - and drag strip racing is boring as hell (which is all those turbo imports are good for, flamesuit on)

just wait till that 3600-3700 lb. supra has to make a highspeed turn or sudden stop :crash

The Supra weighs 200 pounds more than your Z06, and responds better to mods than anything the LS1 or LS6 could ever dream of. You must never have remembered when the Supra was running Solo 2 and the Touring classes on SCCA, just becuase you own the Z06 doesn't make it the greatest car on earth, bang for the buck good, fastest car on the planet, not by a long shot.

:lol I know I hit this thread a little late cause it's gone off subject to cages:ugh but I have to say that this story was funny:lol
Stupid squids, I would've looked at his tires too and questioned him if there would've been chicken strips, cause if he's had that kind of experience I would think he was a pretty good rider. Haha, the stupid dude was trying to start his bike without the keys in the ignition, I would've made him feel like a bitch and made fun of him!
I hate posers so badly, of course I useally don't see to many with R1s thank goodness, just those damn gixxers.....
