I'm going to utilize this thread to post my review as I move through the different phases of this bike.

I'm coming from a 2010 S1000rr with bolt ons, filter, exhaust and full ohlins.

Recent bikes
2010 S1000rr
2011 ZX10
2009 ZX10

First impressions sitting on the bike... I didnt like. I felt like I was sitting on the tank. I'm 6'1 and tippy-toe. The handle bars felt too close to the tank and I felt like I was falling forward. I have never sat on a bike and felt this high above it, even on my super-bike track bike.

I pulled it from one parking lot to another and again, felt like I was on a unicycle of sorts. Steering felt weird and light. I have never felt this out of place on a bike before.

I drove it about 10 miles home which was about a 15 minute ride and I noticed myself getting use to the bike. It's probably the most uncomfortable bike I've ever ridden and I feel like my wrist are going to hate me on long trips because im leaning forward so much on it. Im leaned forward a lot more and worry my back my hate me too. Even when I point my toes down with my heels on the pegs I feel like im balled up on this thing. There is no helping it.

So... I hate the bike huh? Wrong. I didint buy it for comfort and I didnt buy it to relax. I bought it to run like an ape. I too the on ramp to the highway which for most is 35-40 and although I was babying the bike I was able to comfortable get around it at about 70mph and the bike was like a rail. I loved it. It felt a lot better than my BMW with all the bling bling.

im pretty excited to get out on this thing Saturday or Sunday and see what it's got.

Stay posted. Bentley is on guard.

I'm 6'3" and felt pretty much the same. The bike is high and you feel very much up on top of it. After a few days I got used to it and 900 miles later it feels like home.

Rode a little more today and im starting to get use to it. Not a big fan of the brakes so i may be doing some altering there. Suspension feels great for not being setup yet. Bike has a good amount of power but dare i say my BMW felt faster. I went to a few places looking to get some new grips (plain jane renthal race grips) and I got a lot of attention which slowed me down but was cool to see people so excited.

Yeah I did. 2nd through 4th and in to 5th. Still a very fast bike. im sure it will feel a lot better flashed and with an exhaust.

Im excited to get on the back roads with it tomorrow. Im sure my perception will change greatly. As of right now... its just another bike.

Put 150 miles on the bike yesterday and im starting to really fall in love.

fixed a few "me" problems with making adjustments from my old bike and plan to do a few things to the bike to adjust what i'm not a huge fan of.

Pretty excited about the possibilities.

Please let me know if you've tried the launch control. I don't even really know how to get it to work and the manual really says nothing about it. Even better would be a gopro vid of it :) I'm not kidding - no one on here has tried it yet. I can't ride right now or I would go try it out.

Page 5-15. LCS and LIF.

Level 2 more strongly controls power engine output. Level 1 applies less system intervention.

For LIF, level 3 most strongly reduces wheel lift.

I believe you have to go into the settings on the dash to access them.

I must be weird then. I want to try all the electronics out. Everything. It's going to all get a workout in the first couple days. I find it very weird that someone could ride hundreds of miles in the same mode and never try the others. It's like the exact opposite of my plan. Maybe I have OCD

Well... did a little more riding. Total of 350 miles on the bike and i'm really loving this thing and think it was money well spent.

I got the suspension dialed in and am interested to get some new feedback from the bike. Definately think it needs some more low RPM grunt which I will be addressing. While im doing that im going to send out the ECU and do some other small things (clear bra), sliders, etc.

Look forward to more seat!

Picked mine just over two weeks ago and since it will be my second trackie didn't bother with registration and as such could not ride on a street. So the first outing was a track day at Philip Island only few days ago. Medium group was about right for the first outing. It was a good opportunity to start running-in the engine as well, so when arrived there my M had 4.7 km on the clock and the only work done was the chopping off some of the muffler, lever guards & draining the factory oil and re-filling with mineral one.
The weather forecast was perfect but the temperature in the morning was 12 deg C with the track measured at 8 deg C for the first session. Tire pressures 32F and 30R cold.
On the very first lap in turn 4 (one of the two slowest corners there) almost got a heart attack. I planned to take it easy but the habits are hard to break and though I wasn't pushing at all a bit too much lean angle (for the conditions) caused a both wheels slide. Drove the knee into a track and thankfully (and miraculously) the tires regained the traction. Rode the rest of the session like a complete pussy and I think everybody overtook me including mopeds.
After checking underpants for the signs of browning I was getting brave again. Progressively track was getting warmer and after two slower laps in every session to warm the tires I was getting faster and faster. At least to the level of not bringing a shame to the new Yamaha. After fourth session (140 km) I have changed the oil. The last two sessions were real fun and a bit of racing was going on as everyone wanted a piece of me.

My verdict:

The good:

Handling - it feels incredibly light in comparison with Gixxer or Fireblade. Going into a corner does not require any effort. Just think about it and its already falling into it. Very stable under brakes an holds the line through the corner perfectly.

Brakes - it is not the circuit that is heavy on breaking but the feeling was very good even with the brand new pads and discs. The rear comes off the ground very quickly but stays in line. Noticed braking marks on the rear disc though I never touched the lever. It must be the Unified Braking at work.

Power - plenty but it doesn't like anything below 9000 RPM. Gearing felt a bit too tall and I needed to drop a gear down from what I normally use to keep the revs up. Coming out of the corners be prepared for some arm pulling action. On the straight it comes alive and was eating everything in sight. The speedo was showing 292 at the braking marker so even being probably 20 -25 km/h off the real speed, it was still faster than I ever got to on my Gixxer. And there still was some room before the RPM limiter.

Suspension - Don't really have an opinion yet. It feels strange as under hard brakes the front does not dive as much. Its more like crouching down and gets a bit to get use to it. The feeling from the front is extremely good and smooth. However, I was having these strange thoughts like does it really need to adjusted hundreds of times per second? Not sure. Will try the full manual mode next time to form an opinion on that part of electronics.

Interest - it was the first R1M on this track, so everybody was coming in to have a look and take photos. Some even wanted to seat on it! :boom

The bad:

Ergonomics - I do not mind seating high on the bike but I like my feet and arms in the right places. I am 6.1 and found the levers angles uncomfortable even when routing the throttle cables over the brake lines and pushing the brake hose all the way to the fork tube.
The feet are too low and to much forward for me and the lack of adjustability there is very annoying for the bike with so much hype of being a racer. :nono:

OEM tyres - Well, they might be OK but with a complete lack of info on track pressures, by the time you figure it out experimental way, you will have no rubber left. I ended up with massive hot tear at the rear LHS even after bumping the pressure to 34 PSI at the end of the day. It was the first time I had more pressure in the rear than in front. Seems the sidewall is very soft and heats up quickly. If I was really pushing hard that rear would not last a full day. Complete shite. Front one on the other hand was behaving very nice so I am a bit stumped.

Throttle - it is TBW so you operating only a sensor and the spring on it seems to be very weak. I would like a bit more resistance for a better feel.

Oil level window - for fvck sake I completely can't understand why the hell it is on the opposite side to where you fill it. Very annoying especially if you on a hurry and can't afford a pit crew.

Rear wheel changing - you will know what I mean the first time you do it. Sensor off, rear caliper off -WTF?

Fuel economy - take this as a joke but the beast is thirsty. Perhaps it just need some fine tuning to get the AFR right. I spotted some wetness at the end of the exhaust like is running very rich.

Summary: I am very happy so far though probably should consider buying the standard one as the carbon fairings do not make it any better and suspension is to be still properly evaluated. Fun to ride and once the ergonomics get sorted it will be fantastic. Errr.... Nah, the carbon looks sexy :rock

Yes you do. Workshop Manual page 4-37

1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove:
• Rear brake caliper “1”
• Rear wheel sensor protector “2”
• Rear wheel sensor “3”
3. Loosen:
• Locknuts “1”
• Adjusting bolts “2”
4. Remove:
• Rear wheel axle nut “1”
• Washer
• Rear wheel axle “2”
• Rear wheel
• Brake caliper bracket

:fact

The video is by the same mob that made video on the ABS removal. I wouldn't let them within 3 m of my bike.

i tired it both ways.. the issue is the spacer that sometimes comes out when you try to take the wheel off and gets stock in between caliper and wheels and then you need to move the sensor etc..if you get captive spacer then you can move the wheel out just like STG shows on the video ..it works either way but i would try to stay with STG way to save some time if i can.

As an update....

Stock tires grip great... probably the best street tire I have ever ridden... that being said, they dont last more than 1200 miles of hard riding at 39psi cold (the best temp I have found for them).

Power still lacks a little for me down low coming from the BMW (have SBU flash and Graces exhaust ... Also tried the akra exhaust). I did change the gearing to +2 in the rear which helped a fair amount with my low RPM complaint.

Handling and suspension are awesome and make this bike a dream.

All in all im very happy and love the bike.

no tire will last long at 39psi... most literbike riders i know ride with 32psi up front/ 35-36psi in the back tire...

and never go by what the manual says, mostly because we rarely run oem tires but also they're aware the stupid things wont last long at those pressures :lol
