Need help on how to cut away subframe for streetfighter

Bike is an 04 R1.. Always loved the look of the streetfighters with no tail, the FZ1N headlamp mod and dbars. Im doing this to my poor bike due to some ahole pushing it over in a public parking lot and taking out majority of my paint on the left side.. random act of vandalism, terrible thing seeing her laying on a curb as I walked out of the store. Luckly the tank and bottom fairing are ok. The custom paint on the bike wont be worth respraying and the whole fairing around the headlight broke along with the headlight housing behind the fairing. I got everything I need for the front end to be done, front light and bracket is on order, since its the 04 I'm going to make my own gauge cover. Brake lines, d bars and risers and so on..

Im not sure if I'd want to mod the existing rear plastics or fab up a cover that'd contour to the pipes, seat and subframe. I plan on ditching the silencers and running straight pipes under the tail off the stock y-pipe. The rear plastics will more than likely be cut for the sides of the seat and just under the back of the seat to keep the color there. Ill then have to put some kind of trim to hide the cut, dont know yet. haha. Ill be starting this in about 2 and a half weeks with some times off from work to get her back on the road asap.

I've had a hard time with searching the forums to find any kind of a process of how anyone had cut and customized the tail. Hoping anyone here can kind of give me and idea of what I'll have to do and what I'll be looking at before I tear into.. Not looking to take anyones design but Id like a better idea of what I can do..

couple quick pics of what it is currently

Can you weld cast aluminum? Usually you will need to do some welding in order to finish it off.

Take some pics with the tail fairing off and I'm sure people will be able to add little cut lines to the pics for you.

I do know how to weld. I'll have the bike at my boss's garage where Ill be able to weld pretty much anything, and have all the tools I'll need. I plan on starting in a couple weeks once a few more things I need arrive and I got time off. I do plan on sharing most everything I do, so once its apart, I'll post more. I maybe getting ahead of myself but Im excited.

Been digging into the bike a bit more now, u'll notice the frame slider on the left side is torn up now... Managed to wash out pulling away from a stop thanks to a bit of crap on the road. nothing major though, easy fix.

got the bike all naked and modified the bottom fairings along with the shroud under the radiator. small brackets using some stock lock screws to hold that and the lower fairing in place up front. all the cuts will be "hidden" from edge tim strips.

Bars and upper triple is with a friend of mine to get machined down (removing ignition stay) and have some spacer made up to the mounts.

This is the beginning of the bezel/bracket for around the back seat. After being welded, cleaned up and drilled, ill rivet the small seat plastics to it. Once the subframe is cut ill be making a plate to cover the square hole at the rear. In that plate will be my small round brake and blinker led's. This bracket will sit on top of the plate used as a cover. on the sides of the seat where the exhaust come up will be little shrouds that contour around the exhaust. Ill keep posting as I work on it.

Better idea of how it sits on the bike and where the rear plate will be..
slowly but surely it'll come together

cut about an inch and a half after the seat mount. But you have to have an idea of how you want to deal with the exhaust exits and the new tail. The 04 and up r1 models are hard because of the underseat exhausts.

Glad you all like it so far. I do have plans for the exhaust, mainly bending up new pipes and keeping the dual undertail. The silencers are fakes, straight pipe inside, so those will be shortened and tucked under the seat more. Even the tips of the silencers will be shaved down some. About an inch past the longest part of the seat is where they should end.

Im very antsy to get these bars on so I can haul it for some cuttin and weling.

Look what arrived ! The stay assembly hasnt gotten here yet but i got the harness mod'd and good to go. still need to relocate main wire harnesses to airbox and run them all down n' over the radiator to the light and spedo. once the bars and stay assembly is here i'll have some more work to get into.

Its comming up fine. Is this an Fz6N headlight?

I give Suzuki a thumbs up for bringing out a pure SBK bike in SF trim.

Looking good brutha. I'm doing a streetfighter set up as well. I just used a hacksaw and cut the subframe end off and now I'm in the process of making a custom fiberglass tail. Fun stuff. Relocating the ignition cylinder sounds like a good idea to create more room up front. Might have to steal that from you :thumbup.

Anyone know where to find Throttle Cables that are about 5 inches longer and match right up? I think I can get away with the clutch cable reaching after getting it to a better path. MotionPro will make some custom cables but if i can buy a set that work from a different bike, cost wise would be nice.

Maybe the Fz1 cables? Only looks a couple inches longer if that, not sure if thats going to be enough.

All of the wiring is relocated. I dont want to see electrical tape for a while.:bulsh: I'll more than likely be ditching the key ignition and hide a couple little toggle switches.

And for a quick taste on some of the stainless steel braided hose covers. Only could do a couple at the moment since I'll need to drain the radiator and havent gotten the 1" - 1 1/4" cover yet. I'll be pulling most of the lines to wrap them all up when I get it.

UPDATE! Throttle cables... I was actually pretty shocked this all came together as well and as easily as it did.. I needed about 5" longer cables to get good clearance turn to turn with my CR Mid DBars. Keep in mind I also have a 1" spacer under the Mounts. I own a 06 KTM 250 SXF dirtbike... I stole the cables off that for shits and giggles... and they are perfect! There is no mid line adjustment on the KTM cables but if you adjust them by the TB's you should be golden.

$30 off ebay to replace the ones I just stole from my bike.

I got 35" brake lines. More than enough. The ignition was deleted and 2 toggle switches are in their place. 1 switch for the fat wires and 1 for the small. The orange wire you wont need if you uses the existing harness (cut off wires right at ignition). Then I just found a clever spot to hide the switches.

I'm not sure what you mean about using the existing harness. Is there another one? Come to think of it, I have no idea what you mean....at all. :lol I suck at wires.

When you take off your ignition and fallow the wires back to under the tank, there are 2 harness's that the ignition plugs into. 4 wires in all. 2 fat wires in one harness and 2 thin wires in the other. I cut the wires off right at the back of the ingition to keep those harness's. Sottered in 2 switches, one switch for the fat pair of wires and the other for the skinny wires. That way I can just remove my switches at the harness's whenever I need to instead of cutting them.

Better?

There is a orange wire as well at the back of the ignition but you won't need it so cut it out if you go with the switches.
