Neutral light stuck on

My 2001 Yamaha R1 neutral light won't come on until the kick stand is up. However, when I start the bike and drive. The neutral light stays on no matter what gear I am in. When I'm done driving-if I put the kick stand down while in neutral it turns the bike off. I checked the switch and its fine. I checked continuity and its fine. I checked the connections and they seem fine. I checked to see if something was hooked up wrong, and everything seems fine. I think I'm over looking something silly. I even had the shop look at it and from a few basic tests no one seems to know whats wrong. I think something is hooked up wrong, but I don't have a service manual on hand for another week or so. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Even a picture of how all the wiring should be would help.

Yea I had to tear apart the wiring harness. I found 3 wires melted together causing the dash and tailights to not work. I am not the first owner. I believe theres been like 2-3 other owners before me. This has been happening since I tore apart the harness. Everyone kept saying that I probably hooked something back up wrong, but I don't know. Would it help to replace the kickstand switch?

Every electrical circuit is like a loop to turn on something like lights...etc. From the sounds of it, the neutral lights wire probably did "melted" or wired together with the kickstand wire. I would take a look both the neutral light and kickstand diagram to see which wire that open and close the loop to complete the circuit. It must be that "switch" wire got bonded together and electricity always takes the least resistant path to complete, so somewhere along the upstream of the terminal of those got tangled together. Hopefully that helps you to isolate the problem.
P.S test light would be good tool to have for this kind of diagnosis
