Hi everyone,

Been a visitor here for years and benefiting from all your knowledge so thought I’d finally take the jump and join in.

Got my 08 new and it was my only bike until I was bored on a day off and went for a test ride last year. Expensive idea, but no regrets and now I have two R1s to play with… never a bad thing!

I've always loved the look of the 04-05-06 and especially the 07-08 R1's! Your 08 is super nice--that color/graphic combo wasn't offered in the US though.
Not to derail this thread but since it's your thread and you mentioned it, I'll comment on Florida riding
Every area has its trade-offs, and while Florida is year-round riding, topographically it's fairly boring (at least in the southern half of the state) and yes the summer heat and humidity is brutal...you can still ride...but I think it's miserable! (and these 2015+ R1's run very hot-need to keep fresh coolant and oil). The weather can change fairly quickly in Summer, but I've never been caught out yet. I won't go out if rain is expected (old saying in Florida is that if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes!). November through April it's no problem. May--the dreaded Love bugs are out-some years worse than others- but about 3-4 weeks of that shit! I go out early in the morning before they come out! For me, most of my riding between June and September is early morning shorter rides when it's cooler and before most of the imbeciles in cages start clogging up the roads! It's rare, but every once in a while during the Summer the conditions are such that we'll get a day or two of dryer/lower humidity days without rain we can take advantage of but again at least we can still (choose to) ride. I feel for the people up North like MI or Minn. etc. can't ride at all while the roads are covered with snow and ice
I'd be interested in hearing the pros and cons of your bikes compared to one another.

Can't tell from the picture but it was cold as Hell-- for Florida anyway!

Thanks @chrisr1gray2016, I love it too and had to hunt down a dealer that still had that colour in stock.

Such a world away from riding here but I also prefer the early mornings when there’s less traffic. As for the bike comparisons, the 08 is softer for the road but less comfortable for me at 6’2. I prefer the gearbox on the 08, it just feels more solid. The 21 is more focused and almost nervous in comparison, but it’s still predictable and handles great. The riding position is more forward it accommodates my height better. Riding them back to back the clutches always catch me out because the bite points are complete opposites which is always fun. Engine wise they’re both amazing, the 08 with the top end band is like dropping a gear and the 21 is a dream whatever the revs.

Thanks @Gearheaded. I bet it keeps you fit! Always loved Florida, need a return trip soon.

Thanks @Savage_R1. Yeah they’re stock and I was surprised because I didn’t think it came with them.
