Just wanted to introduce myself, as I just joined this evening. I've been checking this board out for a few days now and have enjoyed it so far.

Basically, I'm looking to pick up an 03 R6 in the spring. I know the R1 is the steed of choice around here, but I just don't think a brand new R1 and a brand new rider go together. Yes, I've never ridden in my life, but I've wanted a bike for as long as I can remember. I've owned an Eclipse GSX for quite a while now, but I'm looking for more fun, I'm losing interest in the car game.

So, any advice or thougths anyone wants to throw out my way, I'm all eyes. Well, except the "Just get an R1" comments. I think the R1 is beautiful and a phenominal bike, but I'll save that for the next bike, should I survive this one.

Also, good opportunity for people who have recently joined but are just browsing for now and haven't posted..by all means, introduce yourself! :hellobye

let me put it this way
1-welcome to the best forum on the net
2-if you get the R6 or R1, you wont be dissapointed
3-there is alot you can learn from here, we all have
4-if you get an R6, be committed to keep it for at least 2 years, cause the r1 bug is definitely going to bite soon enough.

Welcome to the board, the more people here the better the time!

Thanks KneeDragger. A member of this forum steered me this way...he seems to love it. When I pick up the new R6 I'm going to try my darndest (not sure what your language policy is around here) to keep it for quite a while...if it's financed, then for as long as I'm making payments on it.

This should give me the time/experience to step up to the big gun after that. My only concern is buying a brand new bike as a first bike. But the R6 (and R1 for that matter) were love at first sight, and I'd rather know exactly where the bike has been and been thru.

the r6 should be a good first bike AS LONG AS YOU TAKE IT EASY AND ONE STEP AT A TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, that is entirely up to you. If you dont think the R6 would be a good beginner bike, you might look into getting a haybusa or ZX12R:iamwithst

Welcome :hellobye ......... the R6 is a fine bike but be careful because it can bite you in the :butt . Treat it with respect, take a rider safety course, read Twist of the Wrist, and buy a good helmet and leathers. Enjoy the forum because it :rock

Wussup! I'm getting the 2003 Silver/Black R6 in the spring, and damn man, am I impressed with your maturity. Theres too many bullshit posts about "but I want the R1 now...I want the GSX-R1000, waaaahhhhhh". I started off on the 1998 GSX-R600 last summer for my first streetbike (I rode dirt since I was young) and allz I can say is that the 600's offer alllll the power you'll need when you get started. In fact, many people will tell you to go for something smaller as your first. Anyways, I can pretty much see that your decision is final, so just take all necessary safety precautions, take it easy, and have a fuckin good time on it in the spring! :D

:hellobye welcome to the forum

I am in the same shoes as you,I have never rode a bike and I am getting a blue and white 03 r6.

ps don't forget to take the msf cource , I am takeing it in the spring

Good decision

You are making a good decision on buying the R6 first. I started out on a '98 ZX6R and out grew that in six months (I weigh close to 200lbs and 6'3"). So I bought a '01 GSXR1000. That sucker had so much power. I sold that a few days ago and I am now waiting on my '03 R1 (Black w/flames). I know it isn't going to be as powerful as my GSXR1000, but no one uses the full potential of there bike anyways unless you race. Once again, Congrats.:beer

Welcome to the board and be prepared to spend a lot of time here... it's kinda taken over my life cos the weathers shit over here right now...:( Good luck with "the six" time will fly and you'll love it and it won't be long before you've got "the one"... take your time and I look forward to seing you on here...

This place :rock

Dont underestimate the power of a modern day 600. These bikes are rippers. Very fast and light. I personally wouldnt recommend a new R6 for a beginner rider. It is an expensive toy to have to repair. Make sure you get sliders, leathers, and full coverage insurance. Good luck to ya. I want an R6 too but my wifey wont let me have 2 new bikes...

Welcome aboard the board.:beer Once you get your new bike, post up some pics for us.

welcome dude, I think any bike with any new rider is just fine. Its what is between your ears that will save your ass or get you killed. Be smart, buy the best gear money can buy, take some MSF courses and a Track day, you'll be fine.

OH, and try not to fuckin cuss so god damn much.

****.

later :rock

Welcome from overseas, wise decision the R6.
My first real street bike is my current R1, and damn does she bites me sometimes. If I knew a year back what I know now I'd probably went for an R6, but heeey I fell in love with the R1 what can a man do about that?
And remember its all between the ears trust me.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T the lady.

I would reccomend getting a used 600 for the simple fact that youi are almost guaranteed to drop it. I don't mean your necessarily going to wreck the crap out of it, but you are bound to make dumb rookie mistakes that end w/ the bike and/or you on the ground. I dropped my first motorcycle countless times out of stupidity. Not trying to cut you down, but it will be much less heart breaking and expensive to drop a 96 f3 (or even a 99 r6) then to dump a brand new one.

Anyway, the R6 is a great machine, and I am sure this years one will be even better. I think you should be fine on the r6 as long as you are very mature about it (if you don't think you can control yourself, then definitely buy a lesser bike because you WILL hurt yourself).

Have fun and welcome to the board.

Welcome :hellobye
My only advise is to respect the R6 it is one potent motorcycle.
