Ohlins Rear Shock... What to expect?

I just purchased a rear ohlins for my 13 r1. I'm a active track day rider (once a month). I will purchase the front ohlins maybe after summer at the soonest.

So what should I expect with just rear suspension upgrade with stock front. I post decent times at the track here in SoCal (Fontana, Chuckwalla, Buttonwillow etc). What should I feel on cornering (entrance, mid and exits)?

This is my 1st upgrade on suspensions so I don't know what to feel for and expect.

I'm not installing it for my next track day at Fontana (25th). Not sure when to install it because I'm in no rush.

Any input would be nice. Thanks.

Well,
this is just my opinion, but i have front and rear öhlins and i don't feel any difference at all :lol

Either i'm really bad rider or the difference between the OEM and Ă–hlins are little

This very much depends on your riding style, the track layout and how well the suspension is already set up for you and your style. However...

If I had a choice, I'd rather upgrade the forks first. It's much more important to have a solid front end (at least for me). Even at a track day, most of the passes are really done on the brakes.

Good luck, let us know what you think.

The rider that sold me these ohlins had the fronts also. But it was for a 09-11. He said it would not work on my 13(if he is right). So I just purchased the rear from him. Wish I had the front also :(

I'm not sure 100% how my style is but I would probably say im not agressive with brakes (yet), I'm more smooth if anything, rely on my legs and I try to be light on my hands.

I think this mostly depends on your weight if there is going to be a big difference. I have turned 1:34 at Fontana on a stock R1, and stock R6 (suspension). If your weight doesnt match the springs now then getting the right spring rate on is going to feel much better.

The new R1 suspension was not valved very good so I had to upgrade the front and rear to Ohlins. Its better, but still not the "savior". I never rode the 09-13 model so I cant help with advice. I just know the 15-16 needed better front end.

Usually adding a rear shock drops your time by "1 second" is what "they" say. Lots of variables come in to play with that statement though.
