Earlier this summer at one of the local shopping malls I was walking back out to the bike after paying a bill.. And well to my suprise I found her on her side..

Some old lady walked up to me an said she saw some guy sitting on it swinging it back an forth an I guess tipped it over and ran off about a minute or so before i came out.. needless to say i was a little pissed but was more concerned about my bike than anything at that point..

But anyhow.. Below is the pic of the bottom right fairing, Just need some advice on how I should go about removing the scrtach n stuff.. Never really have done any painting on bikes or cars for that matter.. Soo..

Any advice would be much appreciated..

Have it professionally repaired (probably around or over $100) OR carefully sand out the roughness and put a sticker on it (Cheap and easy) OR change the look of the bike by sanding/filling/painting the lower yourself (Bad idea) OR email dan@woodfieldmotorsports.com and tell him you are from the forum and that you need this one piece of plastic and what's the best price he can do... (may only be like $120 or so, I don't know with an '02 but DAN is the MAN for plastic for an R1... he saved my ass... average 40% off my dealer prices) OR forget about it (easy to say hard to do... your choice)

Too bad there are assholes sharing space with our R1s. :(

yeah. ditto buddy

about 2 weeks after I got my R1, I went into a mall and came out.... the bike had been tipped over.

Dinged up in exactly the same place as yours. Mine's blue, but what I ended up doing was going to the hardware store for some blue paint -- sprayed it into the cap, and dipped a Q-tip in the paint.

Then I used the Qtip to cover up the road scratches without too much spray paint getting everywhere.

It looks ok - people say they can't see it 'till I point it out, but I hate having a messed up bike, that someone else did for me.

I hate people - you can't have anything nice these days without someone breaking it, stealing it, blah blah blah.

Good luck bro.

A sticker would work best. Solid silver ones.

In 98' I had bought my R1 new. I had it for three weeks and disaster struck. I was eating lunch during a court recess (I won the case), and I always park where I can see my bike. I took a bite of my lunch, looked up, and saw my bike sitting there on it's sidestand peacefully. I then proceeded to take another bite of my lunch, looked up again and ****; my bike was gone!

GOD DAMN lady backed into it and knocked it over the sidestand. I ran out there and quickly picked it up. I then called the police and filed a report. Let it be known that State Farm is the quickest in paying claims.

The lady tried to tell my insurance company that I was racing around the parking lot revving my engine and that it was loud. My bike was bone stock at the time. She then told my insurance company that it was my fault and she should not have to pay. Boy was I pissed to hear this.

Nonetheless, I got my check and all was good.

this is the reason you get comprehensive insurance. comp ins should not go against you as a bad claim. i believe you will still have to pay the deductible. if your deductible is higher than the panel to be replaced, it would not be worth it.

i'm an insurance adjuster, and if you can avoid making a claim - fire, theft, collision, comp - it's likely worth it to do so.

Technically a comp loss isn't your fault --- but you'll be surcharged for making a claim.

I always laugh at the insurance folks... Yeah, pay us ya premiums but DON'T!!!! make a claim.

It's sad that folks get to the point where they don't want to make a claim in fear they will get dropped. What's the point of having insurance if you're afraid to use it (not saying that applies here...)

insurance companies do suck, but I've certainly gotten far more out of them than I've ever put in.

past year I've been cut off on the freeway, a lady knocked my bike over at a cafe, and a dude rearended my truck. all non-fault accidents (for me) where the other person paid out.

I've probably cleared 5x what I've ever put in. but then again, I am young... I am sure in the end they'll **** me!!!

you've gotta be kidding on the cost of insurance. here is the breakdown of my bikes:

1997 yzf1000 - $300/yr
2001 champ r1 - $312/yr
2002 r1 - $324/yr

all 3 bikes have the same $500 deductible. i'm 36 and have no tickets since one in '95, which has gone off the radar.

But you live in BFE!

bfe? i'm not in the sticks. i live in the city of tulsa. i believe tulsa is the red-light runner capital of the city. (no stats to back that up, just my observation from being at the local hangout near a stoplight and at least 3 cars pass the intersection after the light turns red) i'm referring to 51st and memorial. another bad intersection is 71st and memorial. look it up online, you'll find both of these roads are in the top 5 most dangerous intersections in the u.s.:fact

i have a friend whose wife works for an insurance company and he pays more for his fz1 than i do any of my bikes. he lives in the country. (not the sticks, just not in the city)
