What differences do you guys notice between the two?

Is the 07 noticably faster? handle better and all that good stuff?

not much difference. i beat my buddys 07 all day long, power wise. i have a few more mods than him though. if you want to save money just buy 04-06, if u dont care about money well then get the latest and greatest 07. but just remember that the 07 is going to be old news in a few months too:drunk:
How can you say not much difference:2bitchsla ...please ride one yourself..then you will see there are many differences........Brakes,Clutch,engine,more nimble, etc etc...I had a 04-R1 for 3 years....before my 07.

I went from a 04 R1 to a 07 Tuono. Just traded my 06 Warrior today for an 07 GSXR 1k. I'm hoping the gsxr will have a little more mid range then the R1 did. Looks wise, well ehhh, I only see the tach when I ride so I can live with that. The R1 is still the sharper looking bike. Just time to try a different bike for a while.

The Hayabusa....what can I say. After the last 7 years of riding the crater with the busa I still have guys I have never seen before suddenly say "you're the hayabusa guy aren't you?" Shit there's 20 of them here which is still not a lot but for what ever reason, that is how many people see me. The busa has sat for so very long with a shit load of parts just waiting for assembly. I have basically procrastinated it into retirement. Well that and other bikes which run that I don't have to work on. Should be a new 07 GSXR 1000 in my garage tomorrow or the next day.

I had some stupid sense of pride where I had determined that I alone would build the busa. But one of the guys who works for me has expressed interest in taking it on as a project. He's the best mechanic I've ever had. He feels that in a couple days he could knock it out. So, pride be damned, looks like there may indeed be a 1507 busa here in the next couple weeks.

You will be hard pressed to find many previous owners of '04-'06 riding '07 that think its not a good improvement. I came from '04 R1 and the '07 is much better. You will find most of the people that say its not much different are ones that currently riding an older year...

better bike all around. went from an 04 to an 07.

fact: the 07 is faster, nimbler, stops better, better shifting, far fewer on the road than the 04-06 which is cool.

my opinion: 07 looks meaner, more comfortable, significant upgrade

Everyone who owns an '07 will tell you (and themselves by association) that the '07 vastly outperforms the '04-'06. And everyone who does not will tell you (and themselves by association) that there isn't that much difference.

I haven't ridden the '07, but my take would be "get the '08". Let the '07 riders shake out all the broken footpegs and throttle lag for you and get the bike the '07 SHOULD have been in 2008. ;)

I love my R1, it does everything I need it to do but if someone were to ask me what is the best functional '07 litre bike for the street, I would have to say CBR 1000.

I know, I am not worthy. :( I love my R1 dearly, but no low end power really sucks for everyday street riding. I know you can switch you sprockets, but then you have to recal the speedo and depending on what you go with (-1 in front) your chain will rub. bla, bla. Nothing beats the look of an R1 !! Hehe...yeah ?

Get the 07 and go one tooth down and you will be happy.... :)

I would be happy to run along side (or as best I can) with anyone with a 04 - 06, if they are coming to Fontana on the 30th. I will be riding level 1, for the morning, and hopefully (as I cross my fingers) get to bounce up to level 2 once the space opens up, as I am waitlisted for the level 2 due to it being sold out at this time.
Obviously rider skill will play a large part in observing the bikes differences, but maybe some obvious points and traits will stand out.
I dont know, it just sounds fun anyway.

I have no problem with low end power, I drive mine in stop and go traffic. I weigh over 300 pounds to and it does just fine. Just dont care for the roasted lower legs but that will be fixed when I get the chance.

I'm not posting to justify my purchase but I read a few tests/ reviews before deciding not to get an 07 (had money down) and just get an 06. I went from I have to have the new latest and greatest R1 to well with a few mods with the savings I can play with the 06. Granted I don't or never will out mod every member here regardless of the year bike or brand, model etc. I just like to tinker a little bit after I purchase a bike.

I read the older bike had more comfortable ergos more than once. I sat on both prior to purchase.
Most of the mags said overall braking power was unchanged yet 07 owners claim brakes are "10 times better"

Most of the mags said overall power was not much different and still somewhat weak in the lower rpms yet 07 owners will tell you " it's much more powerful"

With this said no doubt Yamaha goes to great lengths to improve on an older model but in doing so it's impossible to even get a bike a year later that will be "10 times better" maybe twice as good, or slightly improved here and there.

I bought a left over 06 R1 saved $2200 bucks and used that savings to purchase mods that tighten the gap between the slightly better 07 R1.

IMO alot of guys on here have a real biased opinion and are even very stubborn about it. As much as I like the 06 R1....I liked the 02 R1 I had for 40k miles before this...almost better. I like balls both down low, with good mid and decent topend. A bike that makes 10 more Hp on topend and revs 5k rpm higher and goes 30mph faster = more chance of riding in the "sweet spot", more chance of tickets, crashes, death, being tempted to run, feel like your capable to out run the cops or any exotic car etc.

Buy what moves you or is the better deal to you......YMMV

im with you on that, it didnt make sense with my financial position to drop a extra couple grand on a new 07 when, im my eyes its just about the same thing. my buddy just bought a few mods cause he got pissed of losing to me. full exhaust, filter, pcIII lowering straps. and a few other things i dont remember. but anyway it will be interesting to see what happens. im sure hell make me wish i had a set of headers.

edit: he has a raven 07, hes a newbie on here-mystic. (yet so am i)

Ain't that the truth...:banned: Which brings me to my next question, where is the super bike shoot out from cycle world this year?....

BTW, my 04 has plenty of balls, looks and handling to match any bike. More power and handling is almost worth the upgrade, but I'd have to test ride an 07 first. The 07 doesn't look much better than the 04-06 though, the 04-06 is just fine and a fully capable bike...IMO. With a set of pilot powers and a power commander I'd say the handling and power are on par with the 07...."remember the stock tires on the 07 make a difference, cause those dunlops suck."

i ride liter bikes for fun , no track around :(
so i like the older generation much better , they got torque!
the new gen of liter bikes are like a fuggin scooter at low rpm
yeah , they make more power at the top and ,but its not my cup of tea.
if u check the 1/4 mile times of 98 to 07 R1 u'll se that not much has changed . so i dont kow how can any of u say that 07 is faster and all that...
yeah , maybe after 250km/h it accelerates faster , but before that its all the same and more dependant on the rider.
its a stupid race the big 4 japs doing for HP.
it looks good in a magazine "the all mighty 180 HP R1" and all .but they forget to tell u that at low rpm the bike feels like shit.
same with the gixxers and the others.
for a street bike , i'll take some older model bike over a new one , like the rc51 . but if i were a racer on a track then probably one of the newest generation - the 07 R1 (or the gixxer :drunk: ).

Ok here is the scoop

04-06 - owners say those bikes are almost at good

07 - owners say there bikes are better

Simple as that...

as for the 10x better - no way - but yes it is a better bike in every way shape and form.

I have said this before but on a scale of 1-10 here are my overall ratings

2000 R1 - 7
2004 R1 - 8.2
2007 R1 - 9.5

With all that said, buy what makes YOU happy not others. :fact

On another note, my buddy just jumped from an 04 to an 07 R1 and he told me today to stick with the 04 cause his kept turning off on him while he was at myrtle beach. He also said not much difference over all, so I'm sticking with my 04 until Yamaha beats out Suzuki in every department.

Anyone know about this problem?..."the bike turning off by itself and is anything being done about it by Yamaha."

Check out the new mustang for 74..better right?

The whole "my stuff is better than your stuff" argument is better suited to Porn stars. Newer is newer, better for some than others, to each his own.
Just to enforce the newer is better principle I have attch'd pics of a 68 mustang, and the Newer, Better- cutting edge example of technology and efficiency that was the 74 mustang- which was obviously better being that it was newer, better MPG, better slalom control, and more comfortable.:thumbup
