Wheelie crash injures three children
Monday, May 17, 2004 Posted: 0002 GMT (0802 HKT)

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (AP) -- A motorcycle doing a wheelie in a parade lost control and crashed into the crowd Sunday, seriously injuring three children.

Two 11-year-old girls and a 7-year-old boy were in critical but stable condition at a local hospital, according to broadcast reports.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist was doing a stunt with the front tire off the ground when he lost control and the motorcycle flew into the crowd, landing on the children.

Police apprehended the motorcyclist and were investigating. No charges had been filed Sunday evening.

The parade celebrated local residents who helped elderly people fix up their properties and cleaned up their neighborhoods during the city's 42nd annual Freddie Fixer Day on May 8.

Before we rush to judgement, was the motorcyclist part of the parade? Was he supposed to be doing a wheelie and it just got away from him? I believe also that wheelies should be confined to "safe" areas. But, before we are ready to castrate this guy/girl we should know the whole story. My 2 cents.

Isn't a parade a line of shops, I don't think they meant parade as in carnival....

I love wheelies as much as everybody else but lets get real, you have to be smart about when and where you choose to do them. :no
