Question about the modes on the R1

Looking to get a 2020 R1 once things finally go back to normal. I'm wanting to make sure I understand how the modes work on this bike. Are you able to switch between modes ABCD while the bike is moving? Are you able to change settings within a mode while the bike is moving (such as traction control)?

I have an 1199 now, and on that bike you can switch modes while moving (at any speed). But you can not change settings within the modes unless your stopped.

I've asked the sales people, but they know very little about the bikes. Just trying to clarify things before I buy the bike, then find out on the ride home that it doesn't work quite like I was thinking.

Do any bikes let you adjust much on the move, for safety reasons.

Download the R1 manual and have a read about its electronics, as that should cover what you want to know.

For example, my 2010 R1 could adjust the throttle maps when the throttle was closed. My 2014 RSV4 could adjust the 8-stage traction control on the move and the throttle maps when the throttle was closed, but all other aPRC settings had to be done via the menus, which you wouldn't want to be trying to do when riding (I think you had to be stopped to adjust the rest anyway). My 899 can change the pre-configured rider modes on the move, but Ducati recommend stopping first or only when at low speed if you do it on the move.

That's how the R6 is, you just adjust with the up down switch. I figured on the R1 you could highlight TC with the mode button, then toggle it up and down like the R6. Would just be handy when you're on the track and your tires are starting to wear down in the later sessions.

You can’t change modes in motion. But seriously. Just turn everything off. It’s only then it’s the R1. Other modes are good for rain/saving petrol. But there are other bikes out there for those kinda things. Don’t ever use mode D. Basically turns it into a 600. The weight of the bike takes over. And that’s where mistakes will be made.
