Hi guys,
I was just wondering which you think would be a better bike, the '04 R1 or the R7?.
I know the R7's design is older but it was state of the art at the time and its still capable of making around 150rwhp if you buy the race kit for it.
Also if you had the chance to buy one would you?,I know the R7 would have a higher resale value been very rare and all but parts and servicing would be more expensive.
I already love my '04 R1 but there is a R7 for sale and im very tempted but is it really worth it?

if I saw one, and had the money, or mabey even if I didn't have the money, I'd probably get it.

If the price wasn't too high.

And ride it sonetimes but not very much. Just clean it every day. And it would stay in my bed and I'd sleep n the floor

no thanks. 04 R1 would blow it away in just about any category...but its would be a great bike to collect.
I somehow doubt the 04 R1 has a better sduspension , not to mention handling . Both are great bikes , but not everyone can have an R7

The right bike, in the hands of the right rider, can be equally fast as a bigger literbike.

As you can tell, I'm partial to the R7:)

Just depends on what you want. You can beat an R1 at the track on a properly set-up R7 with all the bells and whistles. The GSX-R750 has already been shown to beat literbikes in head to head tests at tight circuits (Streets of Willow) because they can carry more entry speed and rev faster. The R7 was a purebreed race machine....with the addition of a race kit, puts out over 150bhp.

.....but, for the price of a new R1, you could spend the extra 10K you'd have spent on the R7 and mod the R1 into an awesome machine, every bit as light as the 7 with better brakes and suspension.

Either way, great choice!:thumbup

the R7 would be an awesome collectors bike, but for practicallity purposes I'd go with an R1. That being said, I am already saving my pennies, and a few nickels, for an '06 R1! Though when it gets closer to the time, kawasaki might actually steal my heart *bites finger nails*

Just curious, what torque do they put out with the race kit.

I love the looks of the R7 and the fact that almost nobody else has one.

If I could afford one, I'd ride it just like I ride what I have now.

I do believe an R7 would look very nice in my living room also.:thumbup

thanks for your input guys, my problem would be that if i wanted the R7 I would have to trade the R1 to be able to afford it.
What makes me so tempted to do it is the fact that thier so rare,i have only ever seen 1 on the road in my life and it is 1 of the most beautiful motorcycles i have ever seen.
The R1 is a great bike but sometimes i get the feeling when im riding that other bikers think "oh look its just another R1" the same as they would with a GSXR.the 2004 R1 has been the best selling litre sports bike of 2004 in the UK and at every bike meet the car parks are literally swamped with them, please dont get me wrong im not saying its a bad thing, the reason theres a lot of them is they are an incredibly good bike.now over here Ducatis arnt even looked at as rare there are quite alot of them on the roads too.
There is an R7 for sale for ÂŁ9900 with 9k miles on it, if i was to sell the R1 i would get somewhere in the region of ÂŁ7500-ÂŁ8000 for it, so the 7 could be possible for me, the power differance wouldnt be that much as its already had the work to make it full power i just cant decide what to do, i know if i go and look at the 7 i will have to have it so i havent even called them yet.

Hey Mate,

Just wondering if you ride your bike all year round? I've been itching to get a bike here since moving here from Aus last March. The cold is something I need to get used to here. Another off-putting factor is the cost of bikes here.

Never seen or ridden an R7 so I cant really comment. Did you test ride it yet? That might help with the decision.. cheers.

i ride alot from like March to sept/oct, then through the winter i dont ride too much but i make a point of taking my bike out still at least once a week on a day where its not cold too and the roads havent had salt put on them.If you want to buy a bike nows the best time of year to buy as prices fall a bit in the winter, you could save about ÂŁ300-ÂŁ400 at least

IMHO, unless you are a wealthy collector, the R7 is a huge waste of money... You are paying more for the fact that they are produced in such limited numbers than performance characteristics... I imagine you could be an 04 R1 from HELL for much less $$ than you could buy a stock R7 for...

You should ask member "Crybaby" he owns a R7 and a 04 R1.......... I've ridden both.... The R7 is way to stiff of a bike to ride on the street. And your talking adding another 5-10K into the bike to make it as fast as a new R1. But ask him because its his bike I just to it for a 40 mile spin.

buy the r7 now and then wait for the 2006 r1...everybody will be even more jealous..haha..i'm thinking about waiting till 2006 for the new r1...see what they do to it then..i think i can wait another year before buying another bike..no need to get greedy now..:epimp
