Race fuel?

Hey guys, got a question.
Does anyone know what type of race fuel is ok to use in our R6s and R1s? I have read that some people use VP MR2 or Ultimate 4.
I think the service manual says not to use lead containing fuel, but is that just for emissions, or would it fook something up?
Just wondering because I know that it burns cooler and seems like it would be good for the track when pushing the engine. (I smell it from most of the bikes there too)
Plus, I really really like the smell lol

LOL....I like the way it smells too....what's with that? Anyway, it's a great question and I would also like to know? Anyone have a clue on this one?

PEACE!!!

leaded fuel is bad for the engine... there are unleaded racing fuels that you can use but to me... that's just overkill as the R1 doesn't need that.

you should always run the LOWEST octane you can without causing pre-detonation and hotspots. Lower octane gas burns better.
The exception is an oxygenated fuel......
ELF is a very good example of oxygenated fuel, and i'm sure there are others as well.

Get a fuel consistent with your compression, then if you have the means advancing the ignition is also ideal to reap the benefits... this as i understand is the most appropriate, and optimal.

The leaded fuel won't itself do damage to your engine, it will kill the converter though. If the converter gets clogged that can then do damage to the engine and make it run like crap. The VP Ultimate 4 is an oxygenated unleaded fuel. If you hve removed the converter you run what you want. If you can affoed it VP is nice because its very consistant, doesn't have contaminants(water, rust, dirt) and you bump the timing up without detonation problems.

you are supposed to use 91 octane or higher with these bikes, it says it in the manual and on the damn gas tank.

as far as race fuel goes, the lead in it will really do damage to the engine and injectors, IF the bike is not setup to consume that type of fuel .... ie race engine .... id say just burn sunoco super 94 thats what i use in my R1 and she runs like a champ :fork

Yea, that Sunoco 94 is what I run usually. Runs great on it.
Maybe I will just mix a gallon per tank of race fuel on occasion just for the smell. LOL:sneaky

pump gas; everyone is always looking for a gas tank full of new power. As said before, the lesser the rating the better the fuel burns. So your motor will run best on the lowest rating that does not ping or knock. Save your money for when you turn up the timing, nitrous, turbo/blower. Add one of those, then you will need the expensive stuff and be wishing you could go back to running shit you can affrod and find.

MR9 is what you want from VP. That will require a custom map though. This is the easiest HP your going to gain out there. Its like crack for you engine.

leaded gas in an unleaded engine WILL cause damage. the lead can become welded to the valve seats and cause the valves not to open.

if you use leaded gas in your UNLEADED r1, you will have problems down the road. if you use it once, you SHOULD be ok, but dont do it often. try to find unleaded gas.
