Having a few issues getting the under panel of the tail fairing off, to install some exhaust tips, anyone have a quick step by step or screw/fastener locations?

As always, thanks in advance!:fork
I just went through this.

1. Take the passenger and rider seats off.
2. Remove the two plastic "screws" underneath the rider sider.
3. Remove the one hex nut from the end of the tail.
4. Underneath, there are two "golf pins" near the exhaust up front. Pull those straight down. They can be a pain.
5. With that removed, stand at the end of your motorcycle and gently pull the top of the tail toward you. It should pop off pretty easily.
6. If you want to remove your exhausts, there are two black covers with 3 philip screws in them. Remove those to get to the hangers.

Hope this helps.

I never take the top panel off to get mine. Use a small 90 degree angle screw driver and take the black plastic covers off from inside underneath. Nothing to it really.

A month old thread I know but dammmmmmmmmmmmmmm ..... those two "Golf Pins" near the front of the exhaust holding the top rear fairing to the bottom.

All my efforts and I cant get mine to pop without those plastic tabs looking like they are about to snap.
Im trying to remove mine to drill two holes into my rear bottom fairing to run my rear turn signal wires up through for my Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator. Dont want to drill not being able to see the other wires running through .... dont need a Oooooooooooops !!!

Don't know if this helps but I was in the same situation. In light of frustration I noticed a ruler sitting near my workbench so I used this to carefully apply pressure from the top while pulling from the bottom and they eventually came out. I'm sure any slim piece of wood or plastic would work, just be careful to not use anything that will scratch if it slips off.

I did exactly that. killed the tail light assembly :chair:

comp werkes sent me an integrated unit gratis because I followed their instructions. :thumbup

Is there a trick to removing the plastic phillips looking screw out? They are under the driver seat, and look like they go into the subframe! I have turned and turned and they are not coming out!
They are just 1/2 turn plastic screws. You should be able to just lift them out after you turn them lose.

Hi guys,

What about for the 04-06 R1 ? Is this the same way to remove the tail fairing? The exhaust heas shiels are removed before or after the tail fairing?
I have my TBR slip ons to install this weekend and have never done this before.

Thanks to all:thumbup
