What's the best for the R1 then.It says in the manual to use Mobil1 oil which is fully synthetic oil.I've always put semi in my previous bikes.

What do you think

Ive always used semi synth. but a few thousand mile ago i put fully in and had clutch problems. So put a new clutch in, it still slipped when warm. Put semi back in yesterday and it's cool now. Suppose it depends on the oil it was castrol.

Oh well live and learn!

Which Castrol oil was it? RS Superbike?

I use the cheapest oil they have. I think its all the same(I know there is a diffrence, Synth does lub better). I've owned many bikes, cars, boats, etc. Always put the cheapest oil in. Never had a problem with anything. I've had engines with high miles, low miles, old cars, new cars. I've give everything I got pure hell. Maybe I'm just lucky. But I'm sure of hell not going to start spending more money when the cheapest shit has done just fine.

BTW
I always change my oil and filter when recomended.

YamiLube.... DONT USE FULL SYNTHETIC!!!! aOnly Semi..... use Full synthetic after your first valve adjustment (24,000 miles!) An you cant just use standard motor oil... it was to be for a wet clutch and non detergent oil! Comon guys... read the manual :) if you run anything else.... change it quickly... you may not feel the clutch slipping now but trust me... under heat you are taking many miles off your clutch........

Why can't you use full syn if it's made for motorcycle with wet clutch? Then, why is it only safe to use after 24000mi valve adjustment? Why is heat will make clutch slip when syn works better than semi or mineral oil under load and extrem heat? I'm using amsoil 10-40 now and my old bikes. Best oil I have used so far without any problem. Have you try amsoil?:)

I know amsoil is good.... but IMO Yamilube is better.... its all about prefrence....
Without trying Amsoil, You can't say yamlube is better because it's not. It seems you already made up your mind not to try full syn because of your loyaliy to yamilube. You think Yamaha only knows what oil to use in yamaha motorcycle. Even you can use honda oil and it will be fine:) . Now just try amsoil once and you will see, it won't blow up or make your clutch slip. Now, testing the oil is best doing at track...don't you think? I do few track days and I can say anything bad about amsoil.......yamalube other hand.....:(

ok so why is it a load of crap.... comon mad kaw (cow) tell me... this is what Yamaha suggests.... are you telling me you know more than the manufacture? didnt think so.

P.S. What do you know anyway.... you ride a kawi.... enough said
What is a load of crap? Your suggestion that full synthetic oil should not be used until the first valve clearance check (26,600 miles, by the way). That is crazy. What do you base that on?? Yamaha certainly doesn't say that.

Once the rings have seated, there is no reason not to run a synthetic oil designed for motorcycles with wet clutches.

What does it matter what bike I have now? I used to own an R1...

OK Winders, Stop the hot air and tell us why its a load of crap. I know you guys use full synth in new bikes. Why do some have problems and others not. Is it all to do with the method of running?
Man, do some research on the forum before you accuse me of blowing hot air.

I never said you should use synthetic oil in a brand new bike. You should use a conventional oil for the first 1000 miles or so.

If you get a synthetic oil designed for motorcycles with wet clutches, you will have no problems.

The reason people have problems is that they use automotive synthetic oils that have friction modifiers that are not compatible with wet clutch systems.

Jeez.....

i have no prob with amsoil... i like amsoil... i just prefer Yamalube..... its all about prefrence IMO as long as its not full synthetic... thats all......
So you have no valid technical reason for your personal preference against full synthetic oils? You just don't like them? And why do you prefer Yamalube? Because Yamaha slaps their name on the bottle?

I know all that. I only mentioned the hot air thing because you accused someone else of blowing hot air then did the same yourself. I know you race bikes and have info on this oil subject. Thats why I asked for the explanation. You seem a bit grumpy mate. Are you snowed in as well?
