Hi guys,

Picked up my 09 second hand a few months ago, but don't have the service book. It has had the 1,000km first service completed by the dealer who sold the bike to the previous owner, but I am not sure of the exact service intervals.

Bike has now just ticked over 7,000kms. Is the next one due at 10,000km or have I missed the 5,000km service?? Had the CCT replaced a bit over a week ago so all good with that recall, anything else I should be mindful of?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Cool. Will have to check this out.
Just for interest sake whats the build date on you ADR plate?
Just wondering if it was only the earlier bikes that were effected. Mines a 01/09 build date so I may be able to get this sorted too. I have only heard it one or two times but it is worth getting sorted rather than leave it.

Mine is also Jan 09 and it was starting to play up with horrible rattle on start-up. Definitely worth getting it seen to under warranty.

Service intervals every 6,000kms....bugger, it's overdue then. Wonder what is involved with the 6k service then?

Not sure grunter. Where are you getting your info? The owners manual you got when you purchased the bike or a downloaded manual off the internet?

For some reason the US manuals state shorter service intervals.

The owners manual I got when I bought my '09 lists service intervals at 1000, 10,000, 20,000, etc, but I have seen a US manual on the net which lists service intervals at 6000 klm/4000 miles.

Another thing I notice is that the spark plug maint are different between manuals even though the plug itself is the same. The aussie version I have lists the plug change intervals at 20,000klm intervals while the US version states 8000miles/13000kms. Go figure!:jump

Don't us lucky Aussies get the full grunt version of the R1's though? Yanks get the de-tuned versions or something like that? Or is that our UK brothers?

Well just so you guys know, I'm from Melbourne and I'm looking at my service book now and it is definitely 1k, 6k, 12k, 18k etc. 6k service was a minor (oil change etc). I bought my bike brand new too and is an 09 model.

Interesting. I am looking at the 2009 YZF-R1Y owners manual received when I purchased my '09. Pages 7-2 and 7-3 periodic mainenance and adjustment table. It lists the service intervals as I have already stated at 10k intervals but it also has the intervals as listed every 600miles in brackets. Are you sure you aren't reading the miles instead of klms?

My service and warranty book doesn't state service intervals, only the warranty period and service record where the dealer fills out the klms and stamps it. Either way, I do my own oil changes at 5k using genuine yam oil filter and specified oil.

Auzzie, getting service intervals from the owners manual that l got with bike, under "Periodic Maintenance and Adjustment" it states the odemeter reading at which services should occur, first one is 1000k's, next is 10000k's and every 10000k's after that, it also states this in milage as well, 600ml's for first service, next service is at 6000ml's then every 6000ml's after that.
