Seems like more black than normal anyone else have the same.
I took off the header yesterday and it was in there too. Am I running to rich? If so is it a simple adjustment or what?

Thanks for the help. :beer

Anyone, I thought this would be any easy question for the tuners.

didn't you just get your bike tuned at mach 1 a month or two ago?

maybe they have a readout of your air/fuel ratio?

I'd check the plugs, just because of a little soot in the pipe I wouldn't get too worried.

if the plugs are reading rich you might want to adjust your jetting.

Did tune up at Mach 1 about 4 months ago and it showed just a little rich at low end of the power band. They said nothing to worry about. I will pull the plugs sunday and check. Thanks.

Ivans jet kits run a little fat on the low end. I am sure thats what it is. Also, different fuels have an influence on it as well. People will argue, but try low octane and see if it clears up. It usually burns a little faster, and we have seen a 1-2hp increase on the dyno. The R1's 11.7 comp ration, and the alluminum block and head make it acceptable to run low octane. I have even ran 87 on my 13.5 : 1 motor with no problems

Thanks for the info. I believe that we are starting to get the summer blend gas here now. I will try the low octane and let you know what happens.

If your summer blend is like ours,it is oxegenated, and will lean it out anyways.. Might lean it out on its own. Do you know where your mixture screws are set at ?

No. Not to sure about carb adjustments or where they are. Any help or recommends are appreciated.

If you did a lot of city riding, its all normal.
Mostly freeway ridding. I just noticed the extra soot recently I am probable just be overly concerned. I am going to pull the spark plugs to check into it further though as some else had suggested.

Well I got the air box off and found a lot of oil around carb # 4, I have yet to locate the source. There was some oil on the threads of the # 4 plug. Any Ideas, here are some shots.

I dont know if its a reflection or not,but it still looks awefully lean.
Is that an adjustment I can make easily. Or should she go in for tune up and let the experts handle it.
Also the carb cleaning same question.
Thanks.

Once the carbs are off,its rather an easy task;

Remove all that can be removed

In the float bowls

-Main fuel jets
-Pilot fuel jets
-floats (just push the little rods with a small pic or jewelry screwdriver and take them off with the floats "needles"

In the bell mouths

-Pilot air jets

On carbs exterior

-Carbs tops with slides and needles assembly
-Mixture screws (carefull with those)

Buy some carbs cleaner (2 cans should be good) and shoot some profusely in every nooks, cranny and holes you can see;clean the exterior as well (although WD40 works well for the exterior).

If you got access to compressed air,its even better, but if you stick the straw of the can as far in a hole as you can,it will do (carefull, wear googles or makes sure you dont get sprayed).

Put every thing back, adjust mixture screws 3.25~3.75 turns OUT

Check which size main fuel jets are in,get the next bigger size (ex.:130"s in,get 132.5 genuine Mikunis)

That should do it.

All this because black soot can also mean a lean condition...wierd,I know, but your plugs are a give away!

What do you think about time to do, considering this would be my first time. About 3-4 hours from stand to test ride.

Also whats the purpose for increasing the main fuel jets?

BTW is life more relaxing for you with the ahole gone, hope so.

3-4 hours at least...maybe a lil more.

The purpose of increasing the mains is to get rid of your lean condition!(bike must be running hot)

Life aint that much more relaxing;its been kind of a party upstairs since he"s been gone;people getting in and out (friends bodyguards or what,I dunno)...lots of noise till the early hours of the morning...got about 10 hrs of sleep total this week....most falling asleep on the couch.

I"m about to commit murder.

do you have any links to some good step by step documentation on the carb brake down.

I have a hole day off tomorrow and am considering diving into it then.

Sorry to hear about the noise. It amazes me on how some people can be so disrespectful to others. Don't go to far though its not worth it. Karma will catch up to them sooner or later. Besides you can always jump on the one for some ridding therapy as long as it is not snowing I guess. :riding
