i just bought these from motomummy and put it on my bike. one side started peeling off the next day. i didnt even ride it, it just peeled off by itself. i did heat it up like it said to but it just didnt stick. did anyone else hvae this happen and have success getting a replacement? i emailed mottomummy and stompgrip but no response yet.

You can't just stick them on like a decal. You need to take the time the clean any wax or other contaminates off the surface first. Warm the pads and tank up with a hairdryer and stick them on prograssively from one end being sure the get all the bubbles out. Since it is a pressure-sensitive adhesive, push them down really hard.

I just took mine off, after over a years use. I like it, very purposeful stuff.

I emailed them too. no response.

Funny thing is I know one of the guys who runs it when I was doing X Games and World Cup (they started making stuff for Snowboards fyi).

Well cie le vie, my bike lines look better without it.

Always have an issue with my right side of tank...:dunno

Your paint surface has to be clean...no wax or anything. If you don't press down on them...they will come off. Noticed that putting them on when it's rather humid out causses issues as well. That and if I put them on and then just leave them...they peal back off. Usually ride it after i put it on.

I got mine from motomummy for the '06 R6. I put them on per the directions and they stuck like glue. I love the two piece black ones.

zero issues w/ mine. On like glue.

Did you clean the tank off when you installed the SG? I think I used a heat gun (gently) to warm up the tank a little.

0 issues here too.
It really doesn't matter to me if I have it or not. I still ride the same either way...

evor1,
StompGrip’s adhesive agent has a shelf-life, it's not commonly discussed; however it can (and will) degrade over the course of time despite containment within a sealed package; this cycle is subject to acceleration if temperature cycled.

FWIW, I have a great deal of experience with the product; it has enabled me to continue riding and racing despite significant physical disability; therefore I'll continue promote the product with positive encouragement. That said, its highly advisable product is applied within the first six to twelve months of manufacture; once cured it appears product stability equalizes.

As I’m sure your aware, the preparation process prior to application is essential; out of the dozens of race bikes (and street bikes) in that I’ve utilized StompGrip, my preparation consists of an initial surface cleaning with a moderate household detergent (i.e. Dawn); a successive chemical cleaning is then performed with a commercial wax and grease remover; to many it has a commercial name of PrepSol™ (Origin: Dupont); I’ve had excellent success with a comparable product labeled as “H.E.T SuperKleen #1705”. Once the surface is washed, dried and chemically degreased; I then use a heat gun (lowest setting); elevating the outer surface temperature prior to product application. It is possible to utilize a hand-held hairdryer; avoid overheating the surface, as your goal is simply to promote adhesion.

Once the temperature is at a desired level (i.e. 98/99-degrees), I’ll begin the application process in a manner that minimizes the creation of air pockets; I find that working in 15-20mm increments has the best results. On a side note, prior to application I pre-fit the product by utilizing reference/alignment markers; these reference marks are easily removed with the chemical degreaser once curing has completed within 48-hours. It’s far easier to insure an accurate and trouble-free application with reference/alignment markers; thus eliminating peel and reply attempts that clearly weaken the 3M™ 300LSE adhesive.

In closing, I’ll gladly continue to recommend/utilize StompGrip; honestly the performance return provided clearly exceeds any preparation and/or application complexities necessary to insure ideal adhesion. I’m certain you’ll discover the same.

Thanks!

I had one side come off about 10 months after installation. I emailed stompgrip and they sent me a new one free of charge. if it comes off within a few days then the surface was probably not clean.

VPREATR, that is an excellent write up / how to!

I have a couple of track days, in some very extreme heat days with mine, my bike is riden daily, and sits in the baking So Cal sunshine. There is no hint of peeling, a couple of bubbles, but that was from me during install. These things are great, totally make the bike feel like its more part of your lower body, than a machine you are riding on, if that makes sense.

I cleaned with prep solvent and the two small pieces that stuck to the plastic fell off within 3 months. The two on the tank starting coming loose this last week while I was at DG's. Of course it was well over 100 each day and I was putting a lot of pressure on it. ?

I have'em on my bike and love'em to death. My ballz love'em too :fact Nothin like coming down the front straight into turn one and not having to worry about slamming the boy's on the tank grabbing a handful of brakes.

I liked them so much I picked up another set of black R6 stompgrip that I'm going to replace the clear R1 set with.
