before you get it. What other mods have you done to your bike? I ask because if you're doing this to lose weight, then there are a lot of other areas where losing weight might have more benefits and a higher bang per buck.

Also reducing weight from the tail (exhausts and/or tail) will invariably imbalance the bike and put more weight up front which should be compensated in some way

Aye not necesserilly. But surelly if you also remove the exhausts from the tail and go side mount?

Don't worry, the balance of a bike comes from it's geometry and it's engine placement within the frame, lightening the subframe wont unbalance the bike, weight reduction is always good especially if the weight being reduced is high up like a subframe... I don't know if you ever found the answer to your question but I will know very soon as I am taking my subframe off ready to install a lighter one and will weigh both once removed.

If the stock subframe is 2kg (4.4 lbs), how much is the aftermarket?

Depends what you get. There are a few options. There is an alloy race subframe which I just got that is 1.395KG or there is the all in one rear end carbon unit that is a subframe and fairing seat unit all in one, it is like a rear carbon subframe in shape of complete rear end... I don't know how much that weighs in comparison to complete stock tail section but that is like $2000+ or there is the proper superbike subframe and under seat feul tank conversion, a carbon subframe housing a feul tank, actual tank is replaced by dummy carbon tank shape cover, that's the ultimate way to go but good luck finding it and probably about $3 - 4000 second hand.

Yep it's great. I only have 1 small grumble though. The subframe at the mount points is about 5mm thinner than stock, there is no mention of this buy motoholders. I screwed the subframe on and all was fine. I noticed later that the bolts stuck through the other side by a lot and thought it was odd. As a result I ordered some nice titanium race spec bolts from pro-bolt to replace the toques drive stock ones and counter the length problem... When I undone the stock bolts I had a shock. Where the stock bolts had gone through an extra 5mm due to the frame being thinner, it had pushed the un-threaded portion of the bolts through and wrecked the threads on my frame. Luckily a friend had a tap and recut the threads and my new corrected length ti bolts fixed the issue.

Hope this stops others from having the same issue.
