Swingarm conversion, is it worth It?

G'day,

I am looking at changing the stock swing arm on my 01 to a 04 or newer and my question is "Is it worth the money to do so".

I have searched the forum and I am yet to see a justifiable reason to do so. Will this improve the handling of the bike and improve the stifness?

I have seen that they has been a number of people that have done this but I really need to know if it is a valid conversion.

Would it be better to spend the money on bracing the existing? I was looking at the 5k on the Harris Performance but I still need the use of my kidneys.

Cheers

What are you trying to accomplish? Does your current, stock swingarm seem inadequate? The main difference in swingarms after 2003 is that, with the undertail exhausts, they had to offset the shock opening/location to accommodate the up-pipe for the exhaust. This changes the weight distribution for the mass of the swingarm, however slightly. All of the R1 swingarms are braced, so they should all be plenty rigid, the additional cost/benefit of boxing it is only noticeable at the highest level, most do it for cosmetic benefits.

Thats the feedback that I was looking fr. I have noticed that there is a fella that has completed the conversion and has put an 04 sub frame and the exhaust on an 01 but he has not mentioned the handling changes. I guess I am looking at if Yamaha decided to change it then what would effect the handling. Would the bike turn in differently?
