Tariffs on Motorcycles

There's talk of people flooding car dealerships with new purchases in the next few days to beat the tariffs going into effect, but it applies to motorcycles as well so anyone on the fence might want to step up now! I personally think it's an asinine policy all around, and I need a fourth motorcycle like a hole in the head, but I was thinking of selling one or two bikes anyway, and I sure like that new Triumph Tiger Sport 800. On the plus side, maybe used bike values will get a bump out of this...Crazy!

oh boy.. dude, do the math.. TERNIGNONI AND ARROW are made in ITALY!!

not japan.. ffs.. you clearly dont have a firm grasp on markets, and how suppliers bring
product into north america but i can tell you this much.. product from EUROPE comes
from back east.. PRODUCT from ASIA, where JAPAN is located, thats based on the PACIFIC RIM.

VANCOUVER, SEATTLE AND TACOMA are all the TOP entry ports.. the US / CANADA trade market

all depend on various means of importing / exporting product and yes it affects all in N. AMERICA..

Thought we were talking about motorcycle tariffs, not just an exhaust FFS!!!!! Not a firm grasp on markets!? I beeen buying stocks for cheap when you boys were crying for 3 months and made a shit ton more money.

I already said I make sure to buy stuff here. None of this bugs me and absolutely everything has went cheaper in the last 6 months. I already said this is gona bug you up north more than me. And that’s exactly what’s goin on.

yes, it became a little obvious after you went on a rampage.. and when i say MARKETS i mean
actual TRADE NETWORKS, and how NORTH America is tied together..

did you actually think people purchase a motorcycle and NEVER TOUCH IT??? what forum are you on?

there are pages upon pages of all the little bits and gizmoes we all purchase for our bikes and SINCE
THIS IS STILL A PUBLIC FORUM, it means others also come here for information which affects them.

hell there threads from AUSTRALIA on here asking if its possible to arrange for shipment of a USA
product which is not available anywhere else, and as we should all know by now NOT EVERYTHING
that is SOLD in the usa actually originates in the USA.!! isnt that the reason for the entire post in the
1st place? SUE me if i dont limit my views to the original purchase agreement.. I already stated on
other posts WE do not know how MSRP will be affected going forward.. EUROPE sales for the R1
will obviously drop as it is now a track only item.. YAMAHA sells their product to the ENTIRE WORLD
that means manufacturing numbers and marketshare affects everybody.. IF it becomes unreasonably
COSTLY to keep making the R1 for the USA simply because YOU LIVE THERE, they will just CANCEL
the model and discontinue it!! You do realize based on the history of the r1 forum, this will AFFECT
EVERYBODY. why is that so bloody difficult to understand? and if YOU SIMPLY cannot get
aftermarket products to mod you R1, that will ALSO affect all of us... a 2 year old would get that.

there is also a post on here where I mentioned how motorcycles are MADE up of parts which
originate from several different parts of the world. What do you think happens when said
manufacturer gets hit by the bottom line and shuts down? You really do sound like a 5 year old
refusing to accept the world doesn't revolve around you and your own limited interests.

as I had to sit here waiting for your next post, it also became obvious you THINK everybody
only talks about what you think they're talking about, but since you brought it up.. NOT EVERY
SINGLE MOTORCYCLE IS SOLELY BUILT IN JAPAN! Where are you going to get a Ducati (italy),
TRIUMPH (BRITAIN), APRILIA (ITALY), KTM (Austria), ETC, etc, etc.

oh i'm sorry did you think everybody on a YAMAHA forum ONLY buys the R1?

c'mon this is not complicated. its an international public forum.. deal with it.

just before you go off on another rampage.. this is what i MEAN when i say GLOBAL TRADE MARKETS.. i wasnt talking about STOCKS.. i mean in terms of why Tariffs in the USA side of the north american markets affect THE REST OF US.. or were you conveniently unaware how product arrives from EUROPE as well?

The St. Lawerence seaway, which is in Quebec, so mind the french sounding names. it celebrated 60 fvcking years in 2019!!, it was BIG NEWS..

On March 26, 2019, Federal Kumano exited the St. Lambert Lock across from Montreal and sailed up the St. Lawrence Seaway. The freighter, as long as two football fields, transited Lake Ontario and the Welland Canal to Lake Erie, reaching its destination of Ashtabula, Ohio, within four days.

There was nothing unusual about the course, the cargo of titanium chloride or the Canadian-owned Federal Kumano itself, other than the fact that it was the first vessel of the 2019 season, marking the 60th anniversary of the St. Lawrence Seaway — the linchpin in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway (see map). The megaproject, declared open on June 26, 1959, connected Montreal and Lake Ontario by a new system of channels, canals and locks, replacing an obsolete waterway built in the late 1800s and transforming the way wheat, corn, soybeans and other grains, iron products and ore, stone, road salt, cement, fuels and other products are moved between ports on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence and on to the Atlantic Ocean and global markets.

International and domestic politics and tensions, trade breakdowns and new alliances, booms and recessions, climate patterns and shifting global demand leave their mark in the seaway’s annual cargo summaries. Tariffs imposed on Canada by the U.S. in 2018 caused steel shipments to drop, while overall tonnage hit an 11-year high, mainly thanks to a banner year for Canadian grain — the result of high demand for corn and soybeans from Europe and China, both of which had imposed retaliatory grain tariffs on the U.S. The impacts of China’s March 2019 decision to boycott Canadian canola, meanwhile, are yet to be seen.

Annual transit and tonnage totals wax and wane, but North America’s inland seaway remains critical to the movement of essential food products and building-block materials to and from the heart of North America. Well all I can say is I had plans to restore my father's old '71 Plymouth Barracuda (he passed away last summer, it was the first new car he ever bought) but the "trade war" put that plan on indefinite hold. The car is unfortunately in very rough shape (likely wouldn't be worth restoring if it wasn't for sentimental reasons), it needs a lot of sheet metal, and the prices of body panels have increased dramatically.

From the stories I was told, I think dad blew the transmission drag racing back in the 70's. I'm not sure if he had it rebuilt or if it's a replacement, but the engine is original, but also only a 318, so not exactly rare.

It was plum crazy (or apparently with Plymouth it was called "In Violet", but everyone calls it plum crazy, including my dad) so the colour was fairly rare.

I'd likely be resto-modding it so it's actually something I want to drive, not as an investment.

Either way, hopefully things get worked out sooner rather than later so I can start working away at it.

jury is obviously still out on that one, apparently nobody reads fact based news..

here's a clue though. there are no deals yet, tariffs (the big ones) are on hold still..
this is kinda like assuming tariffs are the reason 'diesel' prices have gone down..
uhmm.. there are NO TARIFFS on Fuel / ENERGY because that would certainly hit the
pockets quick.. They were EXEMPT, not like Aluminum / Steel.. Several other factors
affect fuel prices, ... this is old news by now.. 90 deals in 90 days was a non starter.

Also, we already know POTUS has no control on INFLATION..
Central BANKS or the FED Reserve do. Canada tamed our own national inflation
with higher lending rates, those of us with variable mortgages saw monthly
payments trickle up for a coupld years but now are back to summer of 2022.
That being said they're holding on b4 dropping it further as they are still on edge
thanks to the chaos Trump is creating world wide. Known knowing is no excuse.

The personal consumption expenditures price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, rose 2.3% in May, modestly above the central bank's 2% annual target. The May Consumer Price Index rose at an annual rate of 2.4%, cooler than economists expected.

The muted inflation data reflects short-term steps taken by some companies to offset the tariff impact, such as pre-ordering inventory, absorbing the cost of some tariffs to cushion consumers from price hikes, and leveraging loopholes to delay or lower duty payments, economists say.

"Many businesses have been creative and savvy in using different means to buffer the initial shock," EY-Parthenon chief economist Gregory Daco told CBS MoneyWatch.

That doesn't mean consumers and businesses, who were battered by the highest inflation in decades during the pandemic, are out of the woods. Gennadiy Goldberg, head of U.S. rates strategy at TD Securities, thinks prices are likely to rise as tariffs gradually push up import costs in the second half of the year.

"We still think in next few months we'll continue to see the impact of the new trade policies on price levels, and they should translate into higher inflation," Goldberg said.
