Just thought I'd show you my bike, I know it's not a R1,...
but for us older guys it's pretty close. Arthritis prevents our knees from folding up too high.;)

Thanks guys,
It 's a blast. I commute a little over an hour each way to work so it's pretty comfy.

Thunderheart,

I'm forty-five, been riding since I was 12-13 years old on a Yamaha 90.

R1zoom,

I would love to get the lower fairing, but I want to get my suspension done next. I'll probably send my shock to Calif. Suspension Works. I replaced my fork springs already, although I do need a revalve.

Take Care,
Pat

i've driven one of thoes.... it's an awsome bike.. but I'd have to say... that highmount is badass :fact

The FZ1 is a bike that is usually under estimated by others, it has great midrange power.

oh... btw... that center stand... is an a++++++ .... that stock?.. cause i dont remember that being there on the fz1 i rode..

Hey "Pops" :finger, Nice Bike!! I especially like the highmount. I seriously considered getting one of those, but they sit a little to high for me, and my feet barely touch the ground
A friend owns one, and you can't pull him off of that thing.
Besides, doesn't the FZ1 have an R1 engine? :rock

Hey!! my dad has one of those, he just got it a month ago, its the yellow and black one, its a cool bike, i've ridden it a couple of times...man, i tell you what, i took my buddy on his r6, lol, he thought it was a slow bike....lol.. it'l pull wheelies MUCH better than any 600 sportbike i've ever ridden, but still not quite as fast as my r1, good looking bke, i'm trying to talk my dad into a new exhaust right now too, i'll send him a pic...

Yeah, I really don't have arthritis. And your right 45 isnt old, hell I feel 20 (untill I try to ride to long on my dirt bike). The only time I feel old is when I have to look up to meet my 19 y.o. eyes
Lets go check out those :boobies
The high mount is actually from an R1, I just modified the mid pipe and made a bracket for it from aluminum.(HMF doesn't make anything for the FZ1 yet).

The old man's R1

Old man's R1? I am 26 and have a 2001 FZ1 (one of the first in Arizona). The reasons? I love the R1, but, blew my back out in the gym (hence needed a more upright seat position and no way was I going to get a cruiser) and my wife likes to ride with me so she wanted a more comfortable bike.

The FZ1 is great for modifying, especialy using R1 parts. An example is that I have a 2000 titanium R1 can on my bike
cause back in 2001 there was not a lot of pipes available.

If only I could get one of those R1 underseat exhausts on my FZ1. :(

The FZ1 is actually easier to add an undertail exhaust than the R1.. :facr

Really now. Now that differs from what I heard. I was going to work on fabricating one, but, I was having concerns with clearance. I could make the sweeped pipe myself, but, I am looking for an exhaust can itself to fit between the tire and the undertail. Any suggestions?

www.dynomite.co.uk

they make the best undertail kits for the R1.. I bet you can order the cans that they fabricate (very tiny).. Maybe run a dual underseat.. :thumbup

Just e-mail Nigel.. and ask if he can hook you up..

I actually had a 2001 FZ1 before I had my R1, I tore the motor down, the blocks are not the same, the gen. cover, cams, rods, and transmission gears are the only items that are identicle from what I can tell. The FZ uses the same clutch as the R6, (much smaller). The R/R is the same and maybe the front wheel but that is about it. It was a pretty fun ride but just did not feel right.

Just my opinion.

I have an R1 (48 yrs old) and my wife has the FZ1 and I can tell you that it is a sweet ride. If I was going to ride long distance I'd take hers any day. The only thing I don't like about the FZ1 is that it sits higher from the ground and I don't like where they put the footpegs; seems like they are in the way putting the kickstand down and my pants leg tends to catch on them. Great bike though.
