Coming home from work (approx 10 days ago), I was riding down a two lane Farm-to-Market road at 10:30pm, a black cow trotted onto the road directly in front of me and then stopped! At approx. 60 mph, I went over the top......bike killed the cow. I was wearing my Shoei RF1000 helmet, Joe Rocket Ballistic Jacket, J/R gloves, boots. I broke my back, my left arm, and my left foot, had to be airlifted to the medical center, but the doctors all say that I'll have a full recovery in a few months. What made the biggest impact on me was when I was in the Critical Intensive Care dept. of Memorial Hermann Hospital, all of the people that were dying around me from motorcycle accidents! If I remember correctly(Morphine, you see), I believe they told me that I was the only one admitted that night that had any chance of any kind of recovery, and that the major difference was me wearing my gear!

Wear your gear, everyone. It'll make life easier!

I don't think I'll ever own another bike. I don't want to put my wife and mother through it. They were supportive of my hobby, but worried about me. I think that after this, I could'nt bear to have them worry even more.....they have been so good through all of this, I don't think they deserve it.

Good-Bye everyone! You have all been great. :hellobye

WOW, so sorry to hear about that :(
That really sucks :(

But i'm glad you're here. Just heal up now.
Best wishes :)

Don't give up on bikes just yet. Heal up, and take your time.
You'll be riding in no time :riding

Sorry to hear that man. Both about the wreck and your decision. A few more inches to the right on my last one and I would be dead, even with full gear.

Best of luck on recovery, maybe you can take up dirt riding.

Unbelievable!

Keep up the faith bro. There are tens of thousands of car accidents everyday. People don't say they are done driving after that. It is what it is, AN ACCIDENT! They happen. Good luck with whatever you decide, and get well soon.

Glad to hear your going to be okay. If the frame is straight, you could buy it back realy cheap from the insurance company. Turn it into a track bike........this way you can at least ride on the track until you decide to return to the street. I hit a deer last year going 50, and although my injuries were far less severe than yours, it did make me think twice about riding on the street.......at least for a few days. :riding

:(

Glad you are going to make a recovery as it could have been much worse.... Just get well soon, and think long and hard about whether or not you should keep riding.... If you really love riding, maybe you could stick to track only or off road riding....

Out of all the cows u had to hit the hardest one too :p

You'll be back riding again some time in the future. Don't let a cow stop you, eat it!

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. You are really considerate thinking of your mom's and wife's feelings. I have a wife and two boys and have often thought about giving it up out of respect for them as well as my parents who constantly worry.

I hope you heal up quickly.

Take care.:hellobye

Good luck to you. I completely understand and respect your decision. It's not everyone who has the backbone to put the needs and concerns of others before their own in situations like this.

Wow, I am glad to hear you are gonna make a full recovery and I wish your luck and strength in the rehab part of it. Damn animals..

As far as the number of people down this summer I agree, it seems to be a lot and many of them are deaths. I reciently had a wreck as well and the cop that handled my wreck said that there were already 4 deaths on the on particular road I was on just this month. Also I was the 3 wreck going on at that particular moment. It is crazy stuff going on out there. I hope everyone is save and wears their gear.

Glad to hear you're ok. Take care and maybe you can drop on in even no matter what. Give us some feedback on how you feel about getting rid of the riding habit.
