so i just had a valve adjustment done to my 07 r1...i was wondering if anyone has done this yet?? the reason why is Britt Motorsport does all my maintainance( wouldnt advise this to anyone!!!!!) Last week this was done and this weekend im out of town ridin and come out my friends house to see my radiator sittin on my headers, pushing my fairings apart wtf!!!! i look over the problem and realize that a washer and a bolt along w a acouple plastic fasteners where not there and this was the reason for my radiator hanging there...i went up to britts to see why the forgot to put on some parts...and of course they want to take no blame, they say they didnt touch the radiator for the valve adjustment.....i think its kinda impossible to do a valve adj. w/o removing the radiator...there simply is no room to do that...so theres my ?, is it possible....

2 things:
1) Call a competing bike shop or dealer, and without discussing your issue, ask what the procedure is to do a valve adjustment. Ask if radiator removal is standard practice for the job.

2) Search the net for a shop manual for your model year and see if it provides any clues as to the procedure.

- good luck

Just a question if you do not mind how much did it cost to get your valves adjusted? I need to get mine done as I am getting close to 25k and the local dealership quoted me $500.

My aircraft mechanic friend and I just checked the valves on my 2007 R1 a couple of months ago (luckily, none of the valves needed to be shimmed).

(Purchased Dec. 2006, showing ~30,000 miles.)

We followed the factory service manual procedure, which calls for removal of the radiator.

I don't see how you could get access to remove the valve cover without taking the radiator off.

It could probably be done, but you would be causing yourself a lot of unnecessary cussing, because the radiator is cake to remove anyway.

The biggest pain of the whole ordeal for us was removing and replacing the throttle bodies.

Here are a couple of videos I posted a while back from that day:
