Last Sunday I went with a friend of mine to his first trackday at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX. I decided to film him in his first 2 sessions and then again at the end of the day for comparison.
If any of you guys were thinking of doing a trackday but were unsure, this will give you an idea of what to expect. I think it shows pretty well how much one day at the track can improve a rider's skill.

I trimmed down the footage as much as I could and posted 2 parts on youtube (10 minutes each):

3:30-5:15 in the 1st part is pretty tedious but I wanted to get enough of his first open session to compare.
The 2nd part contains a coming of age, a dead snake, beautiful sunset on the track, and a flaming **** :lol

Cool, I'll be there with you. They tried to bump me to 4 last time but I think I am going to stay in 2 for one more. I really need some more body position work and I don't want to worry about getting in the way of the really fast guys.

Feel free to come find us and hang out between sessions. I'm on this:

why were they going so slow? is that what session 1 is?
They were Level 1 riders. That means that they are first/second timers or people who think they need more work before progressing.

The early sessions are a little deceptive because MSCR is notoriously slick in the morning.
Add to that the cool temperature and the instructors telling them about the dust on the track....basically they were scared sh*tless early in the day.

If you compare the pace between the two vids you will see that they are much faster by the end of the day (which is the whole point).

edit** Also, Lvl 1 has some very strict passing rules. No passing in corners and only in certain straights. This is done for safety. New guys are too unpredictable with their lines, speed, etc...
