OK, I'm hoping to have about $2,000 extra after this summer. Depends on where I end up working & ultimately how much I make (got an apartment, food, college... to pay for). I work like mad during summer, make money, and live off that during the school year. I'm thinking I'll have about $2g extra.
I have a car that could use an engine rebuild (and take that sissy 300hp up to ~450). I've put all the rest of my money into that car since I found it and bought it 3 years ago. Everything is done now but the performance goodies. If I leave the car alone, it'll still be a great cruiser and faster than a lot of other stuff out there. No competition for my friend's dad's Corvette or F-bodies though. At least not yet.
I've been wanting a bike for the longest time. Not enough riding experience to really even bother mentioning. This isn't your typical "Will an R1 be a good bike for me?" thread or the weekly "What is a good beginner bike?". I've read all those, so I know basically what to get. But price is the concern. I can't afford a new SV650 or anything. Is there anything out there for $2000 that would be good enough to learn off? I'd like something in the 500-600cc range that isn't HORRIBLY fugly, for $2grand. And that's about all for my requirements. It can be kinda fugly, I'm definitely not expecting something gorgeous.
I'm not a troll, I've been here a while. Even helped some of you guys out with mechanical questions (mostly the car stuff). Hooked some of you up with the 50 Cent cd. Taught you how to cheat in the Ash Racing online car racing game. Taught you the definitions of "analbead" and "herbass". :lol Even talk to some of you on AIM. So just don't flame me like a troll. Its a valid question and I could use some help.
I've begun working on my mom. Have a LOT of progress to go though. Haven't mentioned that 600cc is equal to about the total displacement of my car's combustion chambers and pulled the other tricks out of my sleeves. Just getting her warmed up a bit. My parents are not cool with getting a bike whatsoever. My dad has had one (or two?), back when Triumphs & Harleys were the best things out there. Lost some friends to bikes too. And in typical fashion, he wrecked his (just like gold XR7 Cougar he totalled, '70 Challenger he sold to make a $500 profit... :2bitchsla ). I'm 19 and about 90% independent, so I could do it on my own, but I kinda sorta like my parents and don't want to hear the eternal bltching if I got a bike without them knowing. I know there was a post on how to convince your parents. I posted a couple times in it. I'm gonna read through all that again before I start hitting my mom up some more. A bike would be perfect for getting to & from school. Worst case scenario, I don't get a bike for a couple more years.
So hopefully I'll get a beginner bike this summer. What is under the $2000 ceiling that is worth learning on for more than a month (in other words, more than 12hp)?
