According to an article I read in Sport Rider a while back, the designators essentially mean nothing. Each manufacturer came up with something to identify the brand: CBR, YZF, GSXR, ZX.....

I'm thinking the 'F' mean fourstroke. YZ was yammies full on racing dirt bike. They changed the FZR to YZF to indicate that the YZF was thier top racing fourstroke. When they came out with a racing fourstroke dirt bike it kind of messed things up a bit.

YZF= "Yielding Zest Forever" Zest, meaning "eagerness for and enjoyment of something; relish" :thumbup

Yes Y=Yamaha Z=i forget (series) F=Four Stroke
If I remember right Z represented Zinger started off years ago late 70s with the little racer called the Y-Zinger then after plastic tanks evovled they made a whole product series YZ then came the Thumper and called it the YZF

The article I read was written by Mitch Boehm. He worked for Honda for several years before moving on to sport bike magazine writing. He's the one who stated CBR essentially meant nothing in an article concerinin the "designators".

I cant remember right now ill be thinking about it though.... CBR did represent something and for the life of me i cant remember Ill have to do some digging.
The C i thought was for Cafe B was Bike or Body and R was Racing or racer. I remember it something like that! I know its close to something like that.

I hate Hondas and dont really know why Just never ever liked them. The tuning forks hve been in my blood since i was 6 years old. Its a Family Tradition! :)
