I see people get flamed all the time about not wearing gear and what not. That got me thinking... What IS proper gear?
I will be the first to admit that shorts, flip flops, and a t-shirt wont cut it since the road will always win but how much gear do you believe is proper?

take it from someone who looped an 01 last year, jeans are like butter when you hit the pavement. i know have permanent road rash scars on my knees from the fall. pretty ugly i might add. i always rode with a jacket and helmet and sidi boots but now it either adventure pants under the jeans from action station or full leather.

The answer to the question proper gear: helment, gloves, boots, and full leathers with back protector. But do I always do it? No should I always do it? Yes. Sometimes I do the jeans when its real hot and no the aren't really much protection. Just pray I don't go asphault surfing with my jeans on.

well.. proper gear for me is:

My Arai
Vanson jacket
Joe Rocket gloves
Jeans

and clean underwear in case I wreck and have to go to the hospital heheh

I Know about the jeans.. they are nothing...my friends friend crashed and his whole leg from his jeans just ripped off  but wearing full suit just when I go puts around I think its a little extreme for me, especially when its like 100 degrees with 90% humidity...

Good alternative to jeans

A good alternative to jeans is some carhart work pants, they have double knee, extra stiching etc.

I took a lowside on pavment with my DR 350 a few years ago and slid a good 40 feet on my knees/hands/elbos.. I had leather jacket/gloves, and carhart double knee pants. I had some scrapes but the first layer of the knee in the pants held up.. Think they go for 30-40 bucks at most work clothes stores. All sorts of styles etc. Your average pair of carhart jeans would be way more effective then a pair of levis..:p
