What is the beef against the Yoshi pipe on the R1?

Looks-wise, I like the Yosh carbon tri-oval pipe... I think the angular shape matches the 02 R1s lines really well. People 'round these parts don't seem to appreciate it much, though. Reasons?

Yoshimura tailors more to Suzuki so that may have something to do with it. Some may prefer to go with a pipe where most of the research is based on an R1 like Akrapovic or Graves. These pipes are available for other bikes, but seem to show their best results on the R1. I say, get what you like and be happy.

My guess the dislike stems in part from Yosh being more of a Suzuki brand thing something like Muzzy for Kawasaki or Two Bro. for Honda. You did not say whether you were looking into the full system or just a slip on. The full systems will tend to work better by different manufacturers on different brands and models and you need to compare the dyno results to get the most bang for your buck. Slip ons pretty much are equal as far as performance due to the only HP increases will be from reduced back pressure as compared to the stock system. I have the Yosh tri-oval titanium slip on on my '02 R1 and I am very pleased with it, looks great on the bike, not extremely loud and Yosh does have very good build quality. If you like buy it as who are you trying to please and why give a rats-a$$ if joe blow likes it or not! When I upgrade to a full system I will go with a Graves pipe as they probably have more R&D in the R1 as a complete package than about anyone else.

I rode it a while before installing my Power Commander, and it wasn't too bad. A little soft down low, and you could tell it wasn't quite right tho. I recommend the PC even for a slip-on. Going for some dyno tuning, so I might have an even better map for the Yosh soon.

Installation is simple and quick. Hell, the most time consuming task was removing/installing the lowers.

As for me, I got the Yoshi tri-oval slip on titanium, double tip. I did not lose any power. Riders say its sound like a GP Bike. I love the sound of it. Lost like 10lbs of weight on my R1 from the stock to the yoshi. I think Yoshi weighted about 7lbs. and the stock is about 17lbs if I am correct. But for sure you will feel the differents...
