What size pistol have you been able to fit in the trunk of an '04 R1?

When I was getting ready to take my wife out to coffee, I walked out with my model 17 and tried to stick it in my trunk. No way. So I walked back in and grabbed the model 19 and came back out. Not happening. So I went back in and grabbed the model 26 and hoped for the best. The only two smaller than that are an Airweight J-frame, and an AMT DAO Backup. The 26 fit, using a Glock belt slide holster.

I guess the .45 LC Ruger Blackhawks are out of the question. :)

Get a shoulder holster.. not like you'd have time to take the key out the ignition.. put it in the trunk and unlock it if you were getting bike jacked anyways..

If you can find a pistol small enough to fit, not sure it'll even be worth carrying.

Quick funny story about a semi-famous local.

Dale Schanze aka Super Dell was riding his sportbike up a canyon here in Utah, actually racing another guy, and went off the road, he wrecked pretty bad, and the bike caught fire. Well.. he had a pistol in the trunk and while people were trying to rescue him, the gun was going off in the trunk.... hahaha what a ding dong

Yeah, better to have in and not need it, right.

"We put ourselfs in the situations we want to be in"

this story is 3rd or 4th hand and may be inaccurate, I welcome any corrections.

I'm from utah and have heard that story too, byt super dale was in the news again a few months ago, he brandished his firearm in an improper situation so they took his CCW license and other licences he had.

not a big deal except thats how he made a living. he had a gun shop, and a computer shop. no longer dose he have the gun shop.

by the way I always carry my 1911 in my breast pocket of my cortech jacket. fits nice and is easy to get to.

Along with what some have mentioned, the only time one would need to pull a handgun to protect you or your property would be a split second move. In my opinion, if you have time to take it all the way out of the trunk then it would not be ABSOLUTELY neccessary to use it(That amount of time should allow you time to evade adversary). It would seem that it would be dificult to justify the use of deadly force in these occurances with the way laws and law suits are going these days (not to say I agree, it seems the owner gets persecuted and the theif gets a fat settlement check in some of these cases you here about).

R1nZX,
how do you like that Kimber .45? My old man has one and that is what he usually carries as it is a more compact 45. Very nice but definately need to be ready for a light touch.
I only have a Sig 40 so it definately won't fit in anything! I really like it though, just kinda big to carry on a regular basis. My license hasn't come back from approval yet so it is a mute point thus far.

Mammalian04,

Personally I carry mine in a shoulder holster or hip holster. You're right that carrying it in the trunk wouldn't do much good unless you were travelling and just needed it at your destination or in case you broke down on the side of the road.

As for the Kimber, I love it. It performs flawlessly, and the quality is excellent.

Sigh. How many times do I have to tell you people: :no

1) Ball bearings in the left jacket pocket;
2) 3 inch (max) steel pipe tucked in the left boot,
3) Pocket knife in right rear pocket,
4) Pepper spray in right jacket pocket; and
5) Gun and ammunition in the back pack wrapped in cloth.

A gun in the trunk will do you no good if you get knocked off the bike. Beside, the power may explode from the under-tail exhaust's heat. Trunk's for sandwhiches.

;)

Gun in the trunk? Really?

I guess I never considered it because:
1. I really don't ride in high crime areas. Not many fast sweepers in the ghetto...
2. And if you do get in a jam, while you're dicking around for a gun in the trunk of the bike, the hardcore dude who made you piss your pants for the piece will be punching big holes in your ass already anyway.

For the same reason you have a fire extinguisher in your house. For the same reason you wear a helmet. For all the other reasons you can't think of. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
so here's the situation:

some guy cuts you off/gives you the finger/does something else to offend you. you
1. pull over
2. turn off your bike
3. take out the key to unlock the trunk
4. remove your rear seat
5. get out your gun
6. put the rear seat back
7. start your bike
8. spend 10 minutes looking for the guy
9. spend another 10 minutes looking for him
10. can't find the guy so you pull over
11. turn off your bike
12. take out the key to unlock the trunk...

i don't see any reason to carry a gun on your bike. it's not live we live in a war zone. i say if you've got beef with someone, duke it out like they did in the good 'ol days, with fists. didn't you ever see friday w/ ice cube? cube's dad was right: people nowadays are too afraid to get an ass whuppin'.

talking about fights, i saw one yesterday at the warriors game. one guy was wailing on another guy for a good 15-20 seconds. guy 2 didn't even fight back. the sad part was that people stopped the fight, the guys started talking shit, and the fight resumed. they actually rolled down about 5 rows of seats while punching each other. the really sad part was that there was NO SECURITY IN SIGHT!!!! one security lady arrived about 15 minutes after the fight, after guy 1 left with his buddy.

Wait, you forgot two steps.
13. Start driving and someone else piss you off;
14. Repeat steps 1 to 12. :)

I'm telling you....ball bearings and momementum. ;)
